[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Trying to get a handle on my new lens I headed out to a local lake yesterday and ran into a beautiful sky. Henderson Lake was built back in 1911 as part of Henderson Park. The lake is really a resevoir, and perhaps as a result of being an artifical feature, or due to a low rate of water flow, has an incredible build up algaes. The city has recently installed some solar pumps to increase the circulation.

PP: I don't have a grad filter for this lens yet, so I underexposed by 1.0 to keep the detail in the clouds, then applied a grad fitler in my edito before bringing up the light level. There were a couple of dust spots cloned out, resized and framed.

RP: Thansk for all the suggestions. It pretty clear that the preference was for losing some of the sky, especially the bright cloud on the top. So that's what I did. This crop seems to direct the viewer's eye to the horizon. I also added a shadow to the frame. I thought it was subtle enough to not be distracting.

Hi Mike,
Superb view. The circular disposition of the clouds and their reflection give a strange feeling of an amphitheater, toghether with the stones in the front part that are like the spectators!
Very well done and TFS

Hello Mike, Glad to see you got your ultra wide Sigma, here I see you have used it to good effect. Comparing the WS I seem to like this horizontal composition. The mirrored reflection is what really makes this scene for me and I would burn the mid-tones in the sky and dodge the highlights on the rocks to give the image more pop. Very well done.

Hi Mike,

Excellent shot. Great reflection and marvelous POV. With a gradual grey filter the clouds wouldn't have been burnt, like they are slightly now. Anyway, that's just nitpicking. This is a marvelous shot. Well done & TFS!

Regards,
Pieter

Beautiful reflections. Nice crop - I like where the horizon falls in this picture. Wonderful composition

What a picture and what a view. I like the rocks at the bottom of the picture. They help to add some scale to the scene and some interest at the bottom area. The 10mm focal lenth works exceptionally well.

Hi Mike,
This is a great capture.
It interests me quite a bit as this is the lens I'm going for in a couple of months for my Canon. I've had a go with one on a Nikon D200 and the results from Sigma lenses have always impressed me.
You've captured the reflections well and have no loss of detail anywhere on the image. Very well composed and good framing. I must get out to do some landscapes soon.
Have a great week, thanks for posting.

Hola Mike,
Una vista espectacular de este hermoso lago. me encanta la perspectiva y las aguas que actúan como un gran espejo.
Buen trabajo!

A very nice landscape. It almost looks like a mirror image from the left to the right. Exposure is pretty good considering the conditions. Nicely composed as well, I profer this to the original.

Hi Mike,

a good POV of Henderson lake and of the reflections in the water, the photo has a good composition, DOF and nice colors. Thanks for sharing.
