Hello Rick,
What a fine photo of this bird you have made. Even if sitting on the shaded side of the trunck you have rendered very fine and naturaly looking colors. The image is rasor sharp so that good dettails of the bird and plumage pattern can be well seen.
Thank you for sharing and I wish you a Happy New Year,
Cristian

Hi Rick,
I've never seen this woodpecker (in real life) but I can see why you wanted a shot of him so badly. He is one handsome bird with that amazing face and colors. This one was worth waiting for - great pose and great details from head to tail. Nice way to start off the new year.

Over-indulge??? Moi??? I think not. : ) We gave 2008 an Oregon send off...pouring rain; and 2009 an Oregon welcome...pouring rain.
I'm glad Lady Luck smiled on you that day. You got a really nice unobstructed shot of this woodpecker. We got a fairly good one in the Tetons last spring. Had to look up through branches to see it though. It doesn't look like yours was very high up. Nice work.
TFS & Happy New Year.

Danged spot on Rick...BTW I know I wanted to post that 'anomaly' of nature shot in my news but with Don's passing and all it seemed the wrong time..I have saved it.....as you are among my favorites as you so well now....God Bless you and the same to the bird!

Dear Rick,
I have seen this species of the Woodpecker only in pictures and you showed us the babies not so long ago.And here is another one of the adult in a fine composition. Despite the dark tones and the bird's dark plumage, the shot has enough light to show details with clarity and sharpness. It looks alert and in attention. The close crop and the vertical composition work excellently.
Thanks so much for sharing and look forward to more in 2009.
Have a healthy and peaceful New Year
Cheers
Silpa

Salut Rick
Chanceux!
