Unfortunately I ran out of Butterfly shots, but fortunatley spring is around the corner! on the meantime a picture of this Spruce grouse (Dendragapus canadensis) mother and her chicks.
When they think there is a threat Spruce grouse females fly away pretending to be injured and thus distracting the threat from the chiks. However this devoted mother instead of flying away pretending to be injured, upon noticing us she inmediatlty climbed to the highest perch and gave us the evil eye, she looked determined to put up a fight if we dared to get any closer, which we didnt, we also limited our picture time to 40 seconds to prevent any further stress on this devoted mother.
At the corner you can see 2 of the 3 chicks she was protecting, they were to her left slightly lower but do not fit on the frame.
Hope you like it!

hello simon
'beautiful picture of the bird
great details
greeting lou
Hallo Simon
The detail captured on this Grouse’s plumage is great. The colour and markings appear warm and rich. The green foliage as background brings out the colour of this bird to a great extent and I like the composition of the bird in the middle of the frame. The big almost marble eye with its red on the eye-lid is a great attraction. I also like the huge paws that remind me of that of a chicken. A beautiful image filled with wonderful colours and details. Have a lovely weekend, and my best regards.
