Just 17 kilometers from downtown Victoria, Goldstream Provincial Park lies amid the splendour of an old-growth temperate rain forest. There you can see a world class salmon-spawning stream with thousands of Chum Salmon returning between October and December.
Goldstream's numerous trails criss-cross through the dramatically different terrain of two distinct vegetation zones. The park is home to 600-year-old Douglas fir trees and western red cedar, mixed with western yew and hemlock, red alder, big leaf maple and black cottonwood. On the drier ridges visitors can find flowering dogwood, lodgepole pine and arbutus. The arbutus, with its thick leathery evergreen leaves, red-dish trunk and peeling bark, is Canada's only broad-leafed evergreen and is found exclusively on Vancouver Island and on the southwest coast of British Columbia. In the spring and early summer, Goldstream overflows with colourful wildflowers, including the shade-loving western trillium and the calypso, a delicate orchid of the mossy forest glades.

My fiance and I have decided to get married in this beautiful place.....July 5th!!What beautiful pictures we will have.

This shot was on our trek to find the old abandoned gold mine. We hike somewhere every weekend and I don't think there is any place left in Goldstream that we haven't seen. This clearing was full of ferns and every time we visit they look bigger and bigger!!.
So many times it would feel natural to have a T. Rex charge us from some of these clearings!!
Yes, we found the gold mine!! Gold was selling for $17.00 an ounce in the early 1800's!!
I cropped this picture to give it a panaramic view. It was shot with Sony Super Steady shot 5.1.

Hello Doreen, first of all CONGRATULATIONS for your wedding! The Day is coming fast and isn't great to celebrate it in the forest. Second, I like the picture you post, the pov leaves room for the trees where we can appreciate their size. Beautiful, the lushery green ferns against the sky is superb. Thank you!

Francine
