Hi Mario

This is a lovely photo of a beautiful flower, but there is only one small problem here. It is not an orchid.

This is a tillandsia from the bromeliad family. Its full name is Pink Quill - Tillandsia cyanea.

You can compare it here.

The tight cropped composition pays justice to this lovely flower and really draws the attention to the bloom. The colours are stunning and this is all due to the perfect lighting/exposure of the subject. Excellent details and great DOF show the exquisite composition and textures of the flower.

Good work and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Thank you, Loot, for helping me correct myself.
You have been of great help not only to me & TN but
mostly to the viewers who thirst for knowledge about
nature & our world, our home.

(By the way, Loot knows a lot. I mean a LOT, LOT.)

...STILL UN-NAMED WILD ORCHID...??? !!! ???
In the project "GREAT WATERS" & "PARAISO" of last week I have referred to the "... still un-named wild & beautiful orchids..."
ORCHIDS ( Orchidaceae )
Orchids are the largest & most diverse of the flowering families with over 800 described genera and about 25000 species, if not more. Now there are 100,000 plus hybrids and cultivars produced by horticulturalists. Orchids have the most advanced floral evolution known.
We saw these orchids, growing wild, in the "Floresta da Iguacu" in the Iguacu National Park, Iguacu, Brazil way back in 1991. In the same year we discovered them,
planted by man, in the "Floresta da Tijuca" in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Just like the Ararajuba this Orchid was protected from export and or exploitation by the Brazilian authorities. ( Ararajuba is a smaller version of a Macaw. It is YELLOW in colour; but, BUT, BUT the tips of its wings & tail are GREEN resembling the BRAZILIAN FLAG.)
After ALL these years I was able to shoot this photo of it in B.C. Its name I dont know. I've looked it up on the google engine "images" & other places but to no avail. Even in B.C. its owners did NOT know the name.
A Botanist by first name "Ori" & member of TN may know
this IGUACU SECRET'S name. Perhaps you do.??? Help.

The colours are very eye-catching, my friend!
I like the composition of this close-up, wonderful colours and fine details...
Macro work well done, with dark blurry background and crisp-soft textures!

I had bromilaids, they grow on trees, have leaves that collect water in tiny little puddles in their centers. I miss having a garden.

Hi Mario.
What an interesting subject you have pictured: pink flower is in embraces of lilac flowers. Amazing subject, wonderful colour palette, great lighting and details of the image. My congratulations and TFS.
Alexei.

Olá Mario,
Que bela foto com ótima captura de todo o encanto e delicadeza da Tillandsia cianea.
Excelente composição, com boas cores e nitidês.
Só um pequeno reparo, quanto ao corte de segmentos das duas flores.
