Considering the hundreds of thousands of flowers at the Butchart Gardens, Victoria, Canada.. There's bound to be ALOT of bees! And i mean ALOT!

I'm afraid of insects in general, but i spent 20minutes just trying to take bees!

Didn't turn out very well, as i was using my P&S camera then.

I can't really find the exact species and scientific name, but i'm guessing that these are the common honey bumble bees!?

I saw a video about some guy who visited the place and flicked on of the bees off the flower just cause!
Mean people.. these bees are just minding their own business in their everyday life.. why did he have to do that.

Butchart gardens is a fantastic place and a must visit tourist attraction for anyone visiting Canada, Victoria or Vancouver.. and to flower lovers. :)

___

Assuming these are honey bees:

A typical small hive contains perhaps 20,000 bees and these are divided into three types: Queen, Drone, and Worker.

Kingdom Animalia
Phylum Arthropoda
Class Insecta
Order Hymenoptera
Family Apiidae
Genus Apis
Species Apis mellifera

The first bees appear in the fossil record in deposits dating about 40 million years ago in the Eocene. At about 30 million years before present they appear to have developed social behavior and structurally are virtually identical with modern bees.

DId you know that the Queen Honey Bee will:

kill its sisters and mother
mate with the males
lay 1500 eggs PER DAY
= 200K egg a YEAR
and is BISEXUAL?

Hi Steph,
Great DoF, great sharpness and very neat image. Unfotunatelly, you captured it at time the bee was not facing to your direction, sideways would be OK too, but at least its head could be viewed. Nicely composed and well framed with dark color plus matching purple color lining. Technically, this is a great shot and very nice PP works.

Hi Steph,
Excellent capture with fine details of both the bee and the purple flower. tfs

Hello Steph,
Nice to see an other picture from you! :) This is a beautiful macro. I like those details you caught in a very nice POV and composition. I don't know why you say that it doesn't turn out very well; I think this is good! Those colors are well saturated with good lightning! I also appreciated your very interesting notes. Thanks,
Claudine

Hi Steph,
Pic is good concerning colours...sharpness almost good...a bit soft at some places.
On the other hand light is good in the picture...
I think it must be beesexual:-). Good note.

Hi Stephanie,
A nice looking macro shot here. Nice quaity light and a spot on exposure have rendered some beautiful colors. Sharp detail with just some falloff in the DOF on the ends of the bee. Nice POV and composition. Looks very good to me.

Hello Stephanie, nice shot. I love the low point of view you have chosen and the colours and exposure are great. I would like to have seen the focus directed on the eye/head and let the rest of the body fall out of focus.

Nice work, very well done.

(it's a honey bee Apis mellifera)

Salut Stéphanie
Encore une superbe photo d'un bel insecte , belle composition et beau BG avec de jolies couleurs et de beaux détails ainsi qu'une jolie fleur en prime.
Bravo et merci...JP

Hello Stephanie.
Beautiful macro and great composition.
I like very much the contrast of the bee over the violet color of the flower.

Hi Stephanie,
fantastic macro! Wonderful purple too. The details of the bee is really perfect.
Note perfect too.
Congratulations,
Wagner.

Excellent macro, and great note! Beautiful blue, beautiful bee ;)
Also wish to add an alarming bit of news about bees! Recent reports on unusually high beekills suggest that perhaps cell phones are to blame.
Are we ignorantly committing Apidae-cide?

Tfs, Jay
