I learned that this is a mink.
It seemed as if he had just come out of hybernating, although I now know that minks do not hibernate, simply they will sleep several days through cold spells.
It was cute how it ran towards the car when I pulled over but as soon as it saw my camera it hid in this grass and then shortly after ran away.
I thought it was hungry and expected food, it turns out that minks prey, they are carniverous. Perhpas it though it could feed on my friend and I...LOL

"Active year-round, minks may curl up and sleep for several days during winter cold spells. Like most mustelids, they are agile and fierce fighters, killing prey with a hard bite to the back of the skull. Prey includes muskrats, mice, rabbits, shrews, fish, frogs, crayfish, insects, snakes, waterfowl and other birds, eggs and domestic poultry. Generally, a mink is an opportunist, feeding on whatever is most easily caught or found; thus, it might avoid fighting to kill a healthy adult muskrat if, say, crayfish were abundant and easily captured. Minks occasionally kill more than they can eat. In winter, they cache carcasses and revisit them to feed."

He may be camera shy but it is lovely to see animals in the wild in their natural environment. You were very quick with the camera. Good exposure

Hi Kelley,
The shot is great but I think the grasses are too intrusive.
Great catch though.
I posted a WS to show my POV. Hope you do not mind.

Hello Kelley,
This is a really brilliant shot as these little minks are so quick and hard to capture!
He's looking right at you and looks so good hiding behind the dry grass and with the snow behind. Well done!
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Hi Barrie, This is a VERY CUTE picture you have. Like the serious and a bit anxious expression on the guy's face. Good framing.

TFS, warm regards, Kiran.

Hello Kelley

Aren't they cute? They are quite good predators, but can be friendly if raised from young.Much like ferrets or skunks.Nicely done with good details.I like the way he is peeking from behind the tall grass.Good focus.Well done.TFS
