"PURPLE FINCH BABY"

It was registered on 28th. May 2007 with my little Sony camera DSC-S60. Prior to registry:

About 5 weeks ago we began to observe a BEAUTIFUL, what I thought was an unusual sparrow, rose headed small bird gracing our front porch with constant visits. Every morning it sat there. But now that it has started to warm up we opened the sliding doors on to the porch. We hear this little fellow singing almost as melodiously as the wild canaries from Terceira, Azores. I said to myself: " This is no sparrow".

Curiosity got hold of me. Why is it calling on us? What does it want?

On the 28th. May 2007 I heard baby birdie cries from the 2 Emerald Cedars at the side of the porch. Much to my happy surprise I noticed its nest. And there you have it ... this image. I was most, MOST careful not to disturb that nest; did not want the parents to reject its fledgeling. I also noticed that the baby was seated on an unhatched tiny blue egg. Please see the W/S to see the second photo; note the tiny lightly coloured blue egg at its side?

So, from the 29th. May onward I tried to capture one or both parents on my Sony. They are both sooooooo camera shy. I had to do it through the window pane. I managed to get them on record. The Dad is afterall almost all red. Yes, I'll post it tomorrow. It's not a GREAT take as the ones as you are seeing; but, it will do if you consider my enormous limitations.

Feel very happy that the parents have NOT rejected the little one. ALL IS WELL THAT ENDS WELL. See you tomorrow with the "Daddy".

"The Purple Finch, Carpodacus purpureus, is a small finch.

Adults have a short forked brown tail and brown wings. Adult males are raspberry red on the head, breast, back and rump; their back is streaked. Adult females have light brown upperparts and white underparts with dark brown streaks throughout; they have a white line on the face above the eye.

Their breeding habitat is coniferous and mixed forest in Canada and the northeastern United States, as well as various wooded areas along the U.S. Pacific coast. They nest on a horizontal branch or in a fork of a tree.

Birds from northern Canada migrate to the southern United States; other birds are permanent residents.

These birds forage in trees and bushes, sometimes in ground vegetation. They mainly eat seeds, berries and insects. They are fond of sunflower seeds, millet, and thistle.

This bird has been displaced from some habitat by House Sparrows and then the introduction of House Finches in the east.

This is the state bird of New Hampshire". ( Thanks Wikipedia.)

Hello Mario,
This is a cute situation that is captured!
This image demonstrates well why the birdy world comes with dull colours on the mothers while the fathers have shining colours...
Well composed, good colours & details!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Hello Aires,
Very nice and interesting capture.Camouflage is amazing.I liked POV,exposure, clear details and composition a lot.
TFS..:-)

Nature trusts you my friend. You are blessed with a soft touch and a clear mind. This is more than cute. It is like a camera version of a reality show. You have caught this moment in a private location for the bird and the bird cooperated.

Also noted how well the the nest and bird are defined. I'll bet you were excited to get this shot. I can feel your heart in your work and it beat a steady rhythm as your mind thought as clearly as the results. Fine job my N of border friend.

Hi, dear Mario.
What a cute and touching subject. I think this is a very small nest. Quality of the picture as well as the note is great. Excellent flash light, well saturated colours and great details. Bravo and YFS.

Hello mario,
That's a very very nie capture of the mommy and the child.
Considering that you shot through the windo, you still have a very good capture.
Yes, the WS photo clearly show the egg.
Very well captured.
TFS & Cheers

P.S:-I guess all of us in TN have become so much alert to any new sounds around our homes...we keep looking out even as we recline on the porch chairs, walk in the garden or even go for a walk anywhere....

Dear Mario,
great picture and note, really outstanding work,
well done, my regards to you all.
Nelson

Hi Mario. You have captured this well and the colours indicate a good camoflage for this small bird. Good work. TFS. Murray.
