[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
When I was a little girl, Lake Ontario was seriously polluted with raw sewage and it got worse. But clean-up efforts have been increasing more and more over the past few years. This photo of the lakefront in Ajax would not have been possible a decade ago, the same place as yesterday’s post. But the lake is slowly getting cleaner. And I want to tell you about just two of the organizations that have helped in that process. (And if any Ontario or New York residents know of more, please tell us about them!)

The first is Lake Ontario Waterkeeper which trains individuals and volunteer groups to be local water guardians and to report pollution concerns. They educate the public about Lake Ontario and the Great Lakes Basin and conduct research and public education activities on behalf of the watershed. Each Waterkeeper program is like an environmental neighbourhood watch program. Waterkeepers patrol their local water bodies in a boat, address community concerns, identify threats to clean water, and make use of the legal and democratic processes designed to protect water quality. Waterkeeper also conducts legal and academic research specializing in compliance with Ontario's beach rules, and publishes a regular report card in the summer months.

The other organization is the Waterfront Regeneration Trust. Their biggest project was to create a continuous waterfront trail along the Lake Ontario shoreline. This path is a 780-kilometre (485 mile), virtually continuous trail along the Lake Ontario shoreline, which connects hundreds of parks, historic and cultural sites, wildlife habitats and recreation areas from Niagara on the Lake all the way to the Quebec border.

Tech: I know that the dof is much to shallow here (my mistake for using it on automatic) but I hope that a true sense of the place comes through and yes, that tree was quite reddish.

Thanks for looking & for reading.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone and Happy Simcoe Day holiday, my fellow Ontarians.

Hi Silke,
An effective composition with everything located on the right place, very nice blue and brown colours and a clear evidence of the good job made for Water keepers
Cheers,
José M.

A simple but effective composition Silke.
Nice detail and DOF, a few more clouds in the sky would add some interest IMHO.
Good to hear the clean-up effort is working..
Well done.
Howard

Hello Silke!
Beautifyl place. Original shot. Perfect horizon. Very good yake. Cheers!

Hello Silke,
A simple but attractive composition showing well the vastness of the lake!
The shore looks clean for sure, but they say the most dangerous pollution is the one that doesn't show...
Attractive water colour, fine details!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Hi Silke,

A very pretty seascape in its simplicity. The lake looks as if it goes on forever. Nice colors of the sky, water, and sand. I like the reflection of the tree.

Jane

Hello Silke,
Wonderful view across this lake. I'm glad they've cleaned it up and here it looks really lovely! I like the light and the little stoney "peninsula". Sharp details and lovely colours. A fine composition!
Many thanks, Ulla
