Common Chicory - Cichorium intybus
Family: Aster (Asteraceae)

Very pretty perennial wild flower with hairy stems and large sky-blue flowers which close at midday. Found in the wild on roadsides and rough grassland .

The nectar and pollen of the flowers attract various kinds of insects, including both long-tongued and short-tongued bees, syrphid/hover flies, thick-headed flies, beetles, and the occasional butterfly. Because the foliage contains a bitter white latex, it probably is not a preferred food source of mammalian herbivores, although cattle and sheep reportedly eat the basal leaves.

The roots of Common Chicory have been roasted to create a coffee-substitute; they are also used as an ingredient some herbal teas.

Bonjour Daniel,
Très beau cliché de cette scène. J'aime beaucoup la netteté de l'insecte et des pièces florales, la lumière très douce et le rendu naturel des couleurs. L'arrière plan lumineux participe aussi à une belle composition.

A beauty! The pale pastel of the Chicory flower makes an amazing backround to show the Hover fly in grat color and detail. Well controled DOF has a nice OOF backround. Nice frame filling composition. Looks great!

Wonderful macro image you are showing here.
Love the wonderful soft blue color tones of the flower, and the color contrast between those of the flower and the yellow and darker stripes of the hooverfly, very much.
Soft background is lovely and composition, sharpness and lighting are excellent.
