[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
For all that the Canada Goose has become a bit of a nuisance in most areas, they still make a handsome subject!
Canada Geese are so tolerant of humans that they will let you come closer than the vast majority of birds. Nonetheless, striding up into the flock is not going to get you anything! I took my time and walked down the slope slowly, clicking the shutter at regular intervals to let them get used to the sound. This was about as close as I could get before my subject raised her head to waddle off.
I discovered in the process that they were more tolerant of me when I was fully upright than when I got closer to their eye-level and also more tolerant of me when I approached from the top of the slope than from the bottom.

Hello Silke,
Nice resting pose of your goose, good POV, and the eye is clear with a bit of catchlight too :)
May I make a suggestion? Next time try a smaller aperture to blur the BG more. You will also gain some shutter-speed, helping to insure a sharper image..all other things being equal of course :)
And when you compose, try to follow the rule of thirds in your viewfinder. The head here should be up & to the left some..
TFS & have a Great weekend!
Howard

You caugth a very interesting pose. Super image. Very close and sharp.

Hi Silke,

What a wonderful pose! Nice shot of the face and eye. The wings are beautiful with excellent details.

And keeping that eye on you for sure...so you "made eye contact" through the viewfinder eh? Well, as you well know, that's the way good pixs are done....as is this one...I am now glad I have discovered your postings!

I have only seen 2 in NZ, and I think they're lovely. So 2 really aren't nuisances!
You show her well Silke, maybe a little soft, but Howard's comments are handy - for me too!!

Hello Silke,
Nice details in the plumage, and the pose is cute and well captured!
I like the tight framing, showing the situation well...
