[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is another of those plants listed by the USDA as a noxious weed. Fortunately it has not been classified as such up here in Canada. The reasoning behind the listing is that it is an introduced species, brought over by our earliest settlers because a spoonful of its crushed seeds acts as a contraceptive. Like its cultivated cousin the carrot, the root of this plant is edible when young.

In North America, it is known as "Queen Anne's Lace" because the flower looks like lace. The tiny red flower often (but not always) found in the centre symbolizes a drop of blood left there when Queen Anne pricked her finger when she was making the lace.

Other names for this flower are: Wild carrot, (Daucus carota) and bishop's lace. In Britain it is known as Bird’s Nest, an apt name when one sees the way the seed head curls up to protect the developing seeds after the flower has matured.

Helo Silke,
Very interesting and beautiful embracing shape of this flower. Lovely light showing sharp details and fine colours. It looks very good against the dark background. Well observed!!
TFS and regards, Ulla

I have heard it said that this looks like hemlock, however having seen both many times, I only see some small resemblance. Nothing I would eat anyway...This is a nice tight and clear picture. Could certainly be used for identification purpose. Well balance colors add earth quality to the composition. Well noted....

Hello Silke,
Fine capture of the seed head of this Umbelliferous plant. Nice and sharp and looks good against the dark BG that seems to be the result of natural lighting. Good note too.
TFS and best wishes, Ivan

Hi Silke

What a great shot. The light is excellent, the composition is spot on, DOf is almost there. I would have like to have seen a little more just to pull the stem into focus as well, but that is just me. I really like the darker BG, it works very well with the colours of the flower.
