[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I timed my walk with great care yesterday morning. The sky was clear and I knew that as soon as the sun was high enough the angle would do wonderful things to the leaves that have just begun to turn.

To everything - turn, turn, turn
There is a season - turn, turn, turn
And a time for every purpose under heaven ~Pete Seeger
(based on Ecclesiastes 3, verses 1–8)

Maple trees are so common the world over, that there is not much I can offer that you have not heard (or read) before. For us in Canada, it has additional significance because it is a popular national symbol, and in its red autumnal guise is represented in stylised form on the national flag.

The musicians among us have a special fondness for the wood too as it is often used to make bassoons and in the necks of guitars because it weighs less than many other woods and has a wonderful resonance.

I offer the Pete Seeger version of Ecclesiastes as part of my notes today both because the season is turning and in recognition of the fact that today marks Yom Kippur for our Jewish neighbours and friends. For them it is the most holy of days in the calendar: the “Day of Atonements” which closes the celebration of the New Year in the calendar.

To everything - turn, turn, turn
There is a season - turn, turn, turn
And a time for every purpose under heaven

A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sew
A time to love, a time to hate
A time of peace, I swear it's not too late!

Hello Silke,
Wonderful red leaves (=love!) to mark your celebration today. We heard about this Jewish festival on the radio this morning! I love your composition with the leaves sharply in focus and in lovely colours set against the blue sky.
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

...and you did it without over saturation of the sky, leaving the reddening of the leaves as still the focus. Super! It is a tough balance which you have accomplished. And quotes from Scripture for a title. Wonderful.

Hello Silke,
Good shot with a good theme and the very suitable Ecclesiastes quote made use of by Pete Seeger. I like the song a lot, religion apart.
You have made a fine composition of Canada's national emblem in a technically superb shot.
Well done and have a nice weekend,
Ivan

These leaves are just beautiful, Silke!
The light is excellent and the leaves display well against the soft blue sky!

My mother-in-law went to Canada many years ago and brought me some maple leaves which I pressed and turned into a picture for her. Sadly, and through no fault of hers, the picture got broken during a furniture move. This photograph has stirred my memories!

Best wishes,
Bev :-)

Awesome! This is real art. It is nature - it is art! Great color. Great composition. Excellent notes!

There is something about the maturing red maple leaves that leaves me deeply fascinated with them, Silke.
This is a highly artistic shot of some of them seen against the deep blue sky through your lens.
Thanks for sharing this lovely image and best regards.
