[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This morning's walk netted gold for me. After a couple of days of wind and rain, the morning sun once again warmed our way. Angling across the grass, it illumined the scattered leaves still sprinkled with dew. While the dog checked and responded to his P-mail, I took a few snaps. A while later I struck gold of another kind :D. I found three quarters (75 cents), including a brand new 2007 Olympic(!) lying in the road! This weekend is off to a grand start!

Thanks to very high winds, this leaf had landed very far from its tree, which I believe is a Northern Red Oak or Champion Oak, Quercus rubra. Judging by the size of the tree, this one has been around far longer than the 50-year-old houses that back onto the park.
According to wiki, "The northern red oak is one of the most important oaks for timber production in North America."

I know that this image is not perfectly sharp. The light was low, the dof was shallow and my bending double made the camera shake. I wanted to convey a feeling, so I hope you won't mind TOO much.

Tech: composed in camera, shot in RAW, converted, resized, sharpened. added frame and signature

Thanks for looking and have a golden weekend!

Very symbolic and helpful as well. It has been longer for my wife than I. I have been back east. She had forgotten what an oak leaf looked like. She just asked yesterday too! It is a symbolic reminder that fall is coming to all. Fall to all.....HAPPY!

Hello Silke,
Very interesting choice of subject, I like very much the
transparency of the leaf when in contact with sun light
very beautiful, great POV and composition

Hi Silke,

Very artistic presentation of this oak leaf. Another thing I haven't seen since leaving the east coast. I like the colors and the lighting and it looks sharp enough to me.

Hi Silke,
so very well seen, wonderful back lighting has produced superb shadows against the back of this leaf. You have the very essence of Autumn (or fall!) in this one. Beautiful colour too. Very well done, you found art lying around at your feet.
Paul

You're an artist! I love these simple shots - they say so much. You really make us look and think. :)

Silke, this is just great!
It's like looking at someone in a tent when the light is on inside! The colours, patterns, ground debris, all say autumn, AUTUMN!
Well done!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Silke, What a composition. Lovely Lovely. Simple and you have the ability to turn normal pic into a framing pic. Ganesh

Hello Silke

Your simple autumn compositions are beautiful and artistic. The lighting in this shot makes the shot. The way it illuminates this oak leaf is wonderful and bathes it in the warm glow that is typical of early autumn. The colours are natural and autumnal.A fallen leaf that has changed colour ,lying on the ground...tells the whole story.Autumn is upon us.TFS

Hi Silke,
The nice lighting showing the veins of the leaf structure and shadow of the grasses makes this shot. Nice soft light. Beautiful golden color in the leaf. Fall is always great!
Scott

Nice composition but I have some restriction about a national symbol shown on ground if I am right.

Hi Silke,
And Gold it is, much better than that heavy metallic version :)
I think the warm light here that casts well defined shadows across the leaf, makes it great..
Well done!

Bonjour Silke, c'est tout simple mais très poétique cette belle feuille morte en contre jour. Dommage que l'extrémité du pétiole soit out!! félicitations, Didier.

Hi Silke,
I love the simplicity, the colors and the way the sun is shinging.

P.S. Here is a smiley face for you! I ran out of them & didn't know why until Nick & Richard helped me.
