Found this huge grasshopper chewing the stalks off my Lilies, lucky for him they had already gone by so I let him munch away as he seemed to be enjoying it.:o) I don't have macro lenses..( yet) so this is about as close as I could get.

Hello Donna,
An interesting shot showing the feeding behaviour of this grasshopper. Remember - short-horned grasshoppers are herbivorous while long-horned are mostly predators :-)
Personally I would probably frame this picture more to the left leaving wider space at front of the insect.
Best greetings & TFS!
Michal

Hello Donna.

Excellent image, very good details and colors.

Regards.
JoseLuis.

Very good for no macro. Nice fine details. These seemed to be all over the country this year. Colorings are spot on. Nice shot. Like your new bio-pic!

This is stunning Donna! Wow! What an amazing capture that you show us; a moment that we don't see often. We supposed that they eat a lot of grass and vegetation but this is so eloquent; you have captured this moment that we all can witness :) This is an excellent macro with superb lightning, amazing details, POV, composition and colors. This is really well done, congrats!
Claudine

This is so clear Donna! I really think this rates as one of the top grasshopper images I have seen.
Excellent POV, and colour.I like the fact you showed all of the chewed part of the leaf. The crop is fine.

Hi Donna,

A fantastic looking grasshopper. Colors are wonderful and details are razor-sharp. Wonderful pose on the leaf. Excellent background and composition.

Hi Donna,

This is a really good macro shot, given you weren't using a macro lens. It's amaxing to see how much feed these things can get through, and you have recorded it really well here. Nice strong colours, good light, excellent detail and nice dof.

Kind regards,

Mike

Hi Donna,
Just marking this shot for a proper critique later. Facing acute internet problems hence doing a quick job. Sorry.

Hi Donna,
When I first looked at this photo, I thought what a great macro shot; then I read the info and text and learned the shot was taken with a tele lens. Wow! Great job, sharp focus, beautiful colors, nice POV and contrast. TFS

hi donna!
great macro with really
good sharpness and fine
exposure!
good work!

Hallo Donna
This guy surely chewed a chunk of this leaf. My latest posting is also of a green grasshopper and I do not know the ID. Looking through your gallery again today I noticed this one of yours and was trying to compare the two. Even if it was the same I would not have known better. When it comes to identifying insects I am clueless. I like the way the light shine from above on this hopper. It brings out the green colour and emphasise the finer detail, like the fine wings and the big black eye, as well as the black lines on the upper part of the grasshoppers body. An all round, good focused, well framed photograph. Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards
Anna
