[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Swans must be the least shy of all the waterfowl I have encountered in my photographic forays. This one is a member of a small family I have been visiting at least once a week for a few months. At first they stayed well clear of me and my camera (and my photos were too dreadful to share!). But now I can get closer to them than I can to a Canada Goose (reputably the least people-shy wild bird).
Provided I approach at a leisurely pace with the camera in plain view, I can get within 10-12 feet now. But if the camera is in my camera case, I cannot get this close. It seems that they have begun to accept the camera rather than me!

The ducks at the same location still gabble noisily and take off, but the swan, as you see here, ignores me and continues with her morning meal.

This same swan is also very aggressive toward the other birds. The Canada Geese cannot get as close as I can before she fluffs her wings and begins to swim toward them. She's such a strong swimmer that she quickly catches up, neck extended and hissing, forcing them to take wing and head farther downstream again.

Tech: shot in RAW, converted, cloned out an intrusive bit of on-shore weed, resized, sharpened edges, framed and signed

Thanks for looking and have a wonderful day

Hi Silke. A very nice shot of the mute swan. Swans can get use to man very well. but can change very quickly if they are angered in any way, You have used the light so well in this one . good timing with the water drops. well done TFs.
Nick..
Have a good weekend.

Very nice backlighting Silke. They are a gracious and magnificent bird. You give it music as if scoring for a movie with your lens. Very nice tune!

Hi Silke,

You caught the grace and elegance in this lovely swan. The water drop is a bonus. The water has a beautiful velvety texture.

Hi Silke,
I must say that you are right about this swan being more than a match for my Canada Geese and for myself as well.I used to see these when I lived in Ontario but now I only see Tundra and Trumpeter Swans and only in the spring. The mute swan doesn't live anywhere in Alberta.I like the subtle detail and colour in your shot, that water drop really touches off the photo. The fact you can get so near to this bird works well for getting the detail down well-only 10-12 feet is very good for this bird.I have never been nearly more than maybe 40 feet from them myself. Thanks for giving us this view. Bob

Hello Silke

A beautiful "S" for Silke and swan. The pose is excellent, and the focus and details are sharp.Very good composition. The colours are well saturated.TFS

Rob

Hi Silke,
i like you choice of composition and tight cropping here. Nice emphasis on the beauty of the S curve in the neck. Nice soft back lighting and a spot on exposure. The colors and detail in the whilt plumage are excellent. Well done!
Scott

Hello Silke,

Who wouldn't want to have their photograph taken if they looked as elegant as! She is certainly posing in a demure fashion!

I like the way you have ignored her trappings and have concentrated on the beautiful arch of her neck, the soft light on her feathers and the tight composition of the whole. The water detail is a good bonus!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Many thanks for your comments on Insect with a Trunk.

Loved your notes Silke.
Excellent CLARITY.
OUTSTANDING focusing job.
Truely ELEGANT too.
M. with warm greetings from Calgary.

Hello Silke,
Seems like you disturbed this fellow in the middle of a meal!
He still finds time to give this fine pose, so very swanlike...
Good light to outline the elegant neck, well exposed plumage!
Greetings,

Hello Silke, nice composition here with the lovely flowing S-shaped neck. Good details too and the backlighting is good. Personally I would have liekd to use a little fill flash here just to get some light on the shadows. Well done.

Hi Silke
C'est une excellent Prise de vue de ce beau cygne blanc! La composition très jolie avec de belles couleurs, ainsi que les détails. Merci pour le partage .

Simly beautiful: fine curvature of this swan's neck set in an elegant composition in superb lighting.
