What is it about the autumn of the year that evokes such nostalgia?
Every time the sun peeks from around a cloud, I rush out to capture one more golden image.
This time, I am back at the edge of my favourite pond for a walk to capture the Canada Geese before they disappear for the winter. The sun fills the goldenrods with yellow on yellow light and my eye is distracted from the goose just long enough to pan back and capture the combination.
Despite the fact that it is bright day, my head suddenly rings with a half-forgotten song. I can hear Phil Collins throw his heart, soul and drumsticks into the song that had been written almost 40 years before:

Once there was a way to get back homeward
Once there was a way to get back home
Sleep pretty darling do not cry
And I will sing a lullabye

Golden slumbers fill your eyes
Smiles awake you when you rise
Sleep pretty darling do not cry
And I will sing a lullabye ~ Lennon/McCartney

What is it about autumn?

As to the goose: you can read a little more about this handsome nuisance here and about the goldenrod here.

Tech: composed in camera, captured in RAW, converted and cropped excess material from the top, resized, sharpened and framed

Thanks for looking and have a golden day

hello slike,
nice colours of autumn, looks like a beautiful painting, well composed shot, nice framing,
tfs & regards
pankaj

I like your creative frame to the picture, Silke.
It gives me the feeling as if I am looking at this somber autumnal view through a window.
The atmosphere is well captured in this shot.
Well done and TFS.
Ram

this looks like i saw it before somewhere..*g*
i like the tighter crop on this one without the house in the bg and the pretty colorful flower a little more to the right.
the canada goose is a great addition - did you get some close-ups of it too?
best wishes & have a great day, thor.

Hello Silke,
When I saw the thumnail the Golden Rod, the pond and your title remind me of the old film 'On Golden Pond' but looking at the image makes me realise that your title is very apt. Great composition and lighting with the golden rod sprinled by asters and the canad goose being central and the calmness of the pond and Fg vegetaion forming a nice inner frame.
Nice scene to for pre-winter warmth.
TFS,
Ivan

Very nice! Artfully done!

As Ram, I like your framing in this image Silke. It adds a dynamic and gives feeling to the picture. Whole presentations in art and photography are called "installation art". It is quite the field and one which many here might study or read on. A simple net search can give many more examples and leads on its purpose. In photography, given that this is the Internet alone, not in person...this gives added honor and need for proper framing such as this!

Hi Silke,

A lovely scene with the goldenrod, water, and the added bonus of the Canadian Goose. Beautiful colors and composition. Your framing makes it look as though we were seeing this thru a window.

Hello Silke
What a beautiful picture! I like a lot the composition with the lake and the flowers. I don't know how you do the framing and letters but it looks very cute.
Very good job.
My best wishes
Maite

Hello Silke,

This looks as if you have picked the colours from a paint chart and colour co-ordinated them to perfection! The leaves tone with the flowers, the flowers tone with the water, the water tones with the reflections and the whole tones with your expertly produced borders! Magnificent!

Hallo Silke,
Du hast das Bild sehr gut strukturiert. Die Kanadsche Goldrute in voller Blüte rechts, links der Teich mit wunderschöner grün-grau Färbung und nicht zuletzt der Schwan, sich im Sonnenschein badend. Idyllisch.
Herzlichen Dank

Rob

Hello Silke,
nicely recorded and presented mood and atmosphere of late summer turning into autumn. The scene looks very familiar to me as we also have plenty of the same species of Canadian goldenrods here in Central Europe along the rivers and ponds. Invaders that are well accepted because of their beauty. Thank you! With best regards,
Peter

What a poetic shot. Amazing reflection the autumn season. Perfect tree-dimensional picture with terrific clear colours and transparent air. I am impressed with your POV and composition, surprising dark colour palette and impressive sunlight. Bravo and TFS.
