TN friends, This photo is the scene of the cicada ovipositing. You can see the dark brown ovipisitor in the photo. The oviposition was continuous for about 40 minutes as my observation.

Thanks for looking and any comments welcome! :-)

This photo is cropped and resized, USM and Levels on Nikon Capture.

Hi Kevin

A really well done macro shot from you, my friend!
I absolutely love all the details presented on your little subject here as well as the impressive magnification you managed. Also at this chapter, the DOF is impeccable.
The upside down diagonal composition is very attractive and great, too.
The flash work is terrific and brings the needed extra light to the cicada, the colors are lovely and the presentation is nice.
Wonderful work, my dear friend!

Bravo and TFS

Hello Kevin!
This is very unique documentary picture. I really do not remember if I have seen ovipositing cicada on the photo till now. Moreover, the quality of this image is really fantastic: very good details, DOF and colours. Also sharpness and composition is nice for watiching, and not very educational.
TFS and all the best!
Radomir

PS. I just would like to inform you that your photo of tiger beetle is already placed in the PES gallery :) Once gaian many thanks for your help!!!!

Superb macro, Kevin!
You have captured every detail of this female Cicada with fine sharpness and colors in an excellent composition. I presume the eggs hatch to release the larvae directly into this dead branch. They take a long time to develope.
TFS and best wishes, Ivan

Extraordinary macro Kevin ! That Cicada couldn't be more sharp and clear. Perfect composition and exposure. Well done !

Mario

Hi Kevin,
very clear and precise, marvellously detailed close up of the Dog-day Cicada captured at laying her eggs into the bark of a twig. Brilliant light, a perfect point of view, and very pleasant subdued colours in the background, and a rich spectre of hues on the insect. Excellent presentation, and I also love the very well informing notes.
Thank you!
With best regards,
Peter

Hi Kevin, another impressin macro from your gallery.
Excellent details and perfect note.
