I shot these Big Horn Sheep on the Icefield Parkway. There was no one around when I go out of my car. I got right down on my belly and used my forearms as a tripod, rolling over to get to the best position. It was spring the the mothers coat was shaggy and starting to come off. I took around a hundred photos before capturing this shot with the little guy looking between his mothers legs.
It was one of those zen momments where everything was coming together and it was just me, the sheep and the landscape. I love the deep coloration of the spruce trees and the purple rock face in behind the sheep.
When I got to my feet, there was a whole crowd of people that had stopped and were watching. They started clapping and cheering, so perhaps they thought the scene was as good as I did.
The Icefield Parkway between Lake Louise and Jasper National park in Alberta is one of my favourite places of nature photography. |

Hello John,
Great focus, composition and color saturation. Springtime means shaggy sheep and cute new kids. Great capture with the kids giving you a look from the protection of mom, thanks for sharing this great image.
