[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I don't make photos too much these days as we have plenty of things to do with the moving we just did. Today was sunny and bright, beautiful blue sky with white snow everywhere. And cold. Finally it stopped snowing!

So, following my post of yesterday, I would like to show you a picture of St-Zenon, a small village in the region of Lanaudiere showing you the Laurentian Plateau at 800m. altitude which is about the highest point in that region. A small river runs accross the mountains there and I forgot its name. There is mainly evergreens growing and at that time of the year when I took the photo, there are no more leaves in the deciduous trees so everything is either green or empty.

I like this shot because of the aerial view far to the mountains. The air is fresh! I like that area because the climate is harsh, there is no agriculture and it used to be a destination for colonization... indians were there beforehand. Then, forestry industries and logging industries installed their plants and now, they are closing. One just did in St-Michel-des-Saints this week, about half an hour, 20 minutes from St-Zenon, leaving many many families without income. What will they do to earn their living in the future in such remote areas? There's not much going on there that's why people relied so much on the forestry industry. But as the forestry companies already cut all the trees they could, they went further north and further north and in a few years, if not already, the boreal forest will be destroyed in great part. If you hit the road to go up north, you will see many many spruces, firs, etc. and think everything is fine. The reality is that the forestry companies left a tree line along the roads for some meters thick, and if you could fly and look around, everything has been cut down in the middle of the roads. You can cry just thinking of it.

Well, on a lighter note, I wish you a very good night as I am going to join the sand merchant shortly. Good night!

Francine

Hello Francine

A lovely postcard like shot of this beautiful mountain scene.
I really like how you composed the shot with the portrait ,vertical look, and how the river flows through the shot.
The hills in the BG are wonderful.
Very beautiful.

Hi Francine,
this is an enjoyable view you have offered us today,I like it.The river is like a roadway that leads to the distant hills, hills that are shrouded in haze that gives an air of mystery to the place. The colour, focus and details are all very nice in this shot with the contrast being maybe a little less than ideal.Tfs. Bob

there is a old Canadian movie called "Clearcut" which is a real damning movie about over cutting of forests..stars Graham Greene...it has some images which as photographer of this scene and notes you might be interested in..Strange in some ways but carries a deeper message..and I do see in the background sky, some haze either from gas engines or soiled US air floating up that far...inversion perhaps...?

Hi Nina,
Good POV of this secluded mountain river and the wilderness that surrounds..
Nice detail and DOF as well.
Hope the "sand merchant" provided a restful night ;}
Have a great weekend,
Howard
