TN friends, I'm back now. ^^;
I had a removal to new house for a few days and just connected internet now. Thanks for the comments on my previous bird shots and I'm going to get bird shots more from time to time. :-)

Well, now I'm back to the micro-world and this is my favorite dragonfly, is named, "Twelve-Spotted Skimmer". You can see the twelve black spots on the wings. This is a male which has white spots on the wings and female doesn't have white colours on body and wings.

* Twelve-spotted Skimmer ( Libellula pulchella Drury, 1770 )

* Range:
This species is found from British Columbia east to Nova Scotia, extending south through most of the U.S., from California east to Florida. It is absent from very dry areas. In Idaho, it occurs throughout most of the state except for the driest portions of the southwest.

* Habitat:
This dragonfly occurs near lakes, ponds and marshes, particularly those with exposed shorelines.

* Adult Flight Season:
Early June to late August

Thanks for the looking and I hope you'll like it. :-)

Hello Kevin,
a brilliant and sharp picture of this beautiful dragonfly with wing markings not present in European species. Pleasant natural colours and highly appropriate smooth background. A well-composed picture, too.
Best wishes, Peter

Hi Kevin

Indeed this is one superb dragonfly species! I'm really not at all surprised that this is your favorite one :)
I actually saw this species while i was in the US and even managed to take a couple of shots...but definitely not that good as this one. Also, until you pointed out the origin of it's name - Twelve-spotted Skimmer - i didn't even pay attention to how many spots to ones i photographed had...i thought they were all Eight-spotted Skimmer (like the one i posted some time ago) but after this post of yours i went back and saw that i actually have photos of the Twelve-spotted one too :))

Anyway, technically, this is an impeccable macro shot with razor sharp details and an outstanding DOF that keeps the subject is very good focus and also creates that lovely bokeh in the BG. Your POV here is also terrific the exposure is splendidly managed, too. Did you use some fill-in flash?
Anyway, terrific contrast between the dark and white patches on the dragonfly's wings and also great contrast between the body og the insect and the rest of the frame...it really stands out as well as possible!
Superbly composed and presented, my friend!

Bravo and TFS
Horia

Excellent capture Kevin, very well composed.
Everything looks very good to me..This dragon looks very similar to the "Widow Skimmer" in it's coloration.

Hi Kevin.
This year I have not taken any dragonfly shot. They are not in our place. That is why I see this superb shot with great pleasure. Reproduction of the beauty is perfect as well as the impressive colourful BG. Diagonal composition, wide DOF, skill use fill flash impress my imagination. My congratulations. Excellent job.

Hello Kevin!
It is really nice to see that you came back to macrophotography! This is another great lesson of Odonatology! :) This Libellula looks totaly different in wing colouration that European species. Maybe only L. quadrimaculata can be a little similar, but still have much more transparent wings.
Details and sharpness are very good, I like also POV (no similarity! :>).
Best greetings from Lodz!

Hello Kevin,
Very impressive dragonfly, amazing how pregnant the spots on the wings are. Do they have a function? I wonder, because it must be better seen by birds for example. Excellent pose, sharpness and composition, like always
Thanks and best regards
