Now that snow covers my garden, it is fun to go back and revisit the images I hadn't had a chance to work with in the spring and summer.
This was taken on the day that I bought my macro lens, so it was very much experimental. But it was exciting to see what I could do that I had never been able to shoot before.

The Chokecherry (Prunus virginiana) is a species of bird cherry (Prunus subgenus Padus) native to North America, where it is found almost throughout the continent except for the deep south and the far north. It is a suckering shrub or small tree growing to 5 m tall. The leaves are oval, 3-10 cm long, with a coarsely serrated margin. The flowers are produced in racemes of 15-30 in late spring (well after leaf emergence). The fruit are about 1 cm diameter, bright red, with a very astringent, sour taste. Chokecherries are very high in antioxidants. (from Wikipedia)

Hello Silke,
This is a beautiful reminder of spring Silke, nice clear image of the flower head indeed. I can remember helping Mom pick chokecherries so she could make syrup, mmmm dang good on toast with cheddar cheese or just plain.

Hi Silke, I like that photo with the nice subtle light and the smooth background. The curve of the flowers is gentle and gives a movement to the photo. Nice work with your new lens! Thanks,

Francine

They are fascinating Silke...I have seen them at different times of the year and this is a good representation of them early on...and they do change dramatically..I understand some folks in certain areas use these for jellies...but I have never had not knew anyone who had some on the larder..

Hello Silke,
Great exposure and light management as well as excellent sharpness and composition in presenting a flower spray of the Choke Cherry.
It reminds me of our 'Hägg' a species of wild cherry that flowers at the same time and according to Swedish tradition the most beautiful time of the year is the week between the flowering of the hägg and the lilac.
Thanks and best wishes, Ivan

Hi Silke

Lovely composition with great detail and exposure. We have the Bird Cherry in the UK, but in the wild it is extremely rare. However, when it is in flower, the scent makes it very easy to locate them.

Silke, Lovely shot and somehow I love the way you show the picture. Excellent done Ganesh

Hi Silke,
I like the light/shadow here most of all. Great color and detail, very effective use of DOF to isolate the flower in the frame.
For the first day with your new macro lens, it's especially nice :)

Hi Silke!

It's good to have this grey weather now. A lot of us are digging out great pictures from the archives. Yours is a beauty, refreshing and delicate, a wonderful interplay of light and shadow.

I like it very much...

Kind regards

Markus

You have captured this delicately ornate bunch of Chokecherry very well and presented it within an innovative and bold frame, Silke. Speaks volumes about how gentle your own feelings must be about these flowers shot with your new lens.
Indeed, it is a very beautiful and artistic picture.
Thanks for sharing it and best regards.

Hello Silke

A lovely reminder of warmer days and of warmer days to come.
The focus is good with lovely detail in the tiny florets.
The POV and DOF are very good.
The panacle stands out well against the blurred OOF BG.
The colours are rich.
