HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE

Petrified Wood

...kinda how I feel this morning....LOL.

Fossilized wood where all the organic material has been replaced with minerals like silicate and quartz.

carbon - black
cobalt - green/blue
chromium - green/blue
copper - green/blue
iron oxides - red, brown and yellow
manganese - pink/orange
manganese oxide - black

In 1977, Petrified Wood was named the official stone of Alberta. Petrified wood was originally from coal seams, and was carried by water and deposited in streams and rivers. It's fairly common to see here in Alberta. Petrified wood is considered a semi precious stone and has been used in jewelry and decorations.

Happy New Year Janice and Family,
Exceptional sample of petrified wood. A fine piece of aged wood with great detail of weathering and having been soaked in water for long periods of time as the grain in the wood has expanded.
Very good post...
Steve

It is a lovely specimen, very well captured. I find petrified wood very beautiful and interesting.

Janice,
A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU & YOUR LOVED ONES TOO.

This image is a "REAL" find.

MAGNIFICIENT.

Warm & FOND greetings from your neighbour,
Mario.

A defining moment for me is learning that Pet. wood was official stone...wow...I have some...I have a few fossils and wood pieces which I have collected over the years...I really love my amber which is beautiful. All of these geological wonders are a mystery in nature...it is mind boggling to think back or to even imagine that there was a "way back" that many years ago. Your image shows proof, not only in it' simple posting but in its natural beauty. A very nice image Janice...Keep on Trekkin'

Hi Janice,
first happy belated new year to you and yours!I did not know here in Alberta we had any petrified wood but then again I should of,what with dinosaur fossils and the like.So it is an official stone for Alberta and that of course I did not know as I thought ammonites were our stones. This capture is simply superb and the detail captured in it is great. There is one little spot that has a face like look to it,a little like an old sea dog in the shadows, neat! Thanks for sharing this photo as I have learned something more about Alberta today. Bob

Hello Janice,

thanks for sharing this and I sure love to get my hand on one. Nice light and excellent texture of the wood well written in this image. The base is the rock cut and polished I think.

Regards,
Jusni

Hi Janice. Good to see this example of petrified wood has found a good place to be on display. The details are clear and the colours realistic. I like to see this sort of specimen. TFS. Murray.
