This was the first of three Snowy Owls that were seen on Wolfe Island - all within a few hundred meters of each other.
According to www.birds.cornell.edu, this is an older male Snowy.
~Young male Snowy Owls are barred with dark brown and get whiter as they get older. Females keep some dark markings throughout their lives. Young males tend to have a white bib, a white back of the head, and fewer rows of bars on the tail than females. Although the darkest males and the palest females are nearly alike in color, the whitest birds are always males and the most heavily barred ones are always females. Some old males can be nearly pure white.
I'm still learning how to Post-Process to bring out the best in my pictures - any critiques or tips would be greatly appreciated.
I also managed to photograph the 2nd Snowy Owl - a heavily barred Female - which flew to join this handsome male. Will post later. |

Hi Lissa, great picture of this beautiful bird, you are very lucky to meet one. I really like the composition and the way you framed the picture. In the thumbnail it looks like a sculpture. I cannot be of any help with tips in post-processing as I am like you, just learning it. And I'm getting to like it, slowly ;-). Thank you,
Francine
Hi Lissa,
Very beautiful composition. The contrast between the bird and its surroundings is amazing! The pure white owl has a 'ghostly' appearance. You can call him Casper :)
cheers,
