Little Acrobat is today's upload. My favorite little birds are the Black-capped Chickadees and when there is little else around to photo I'll turn my camera to these little birds.Chickadees are one of the most acrobatic birds that I have ever seen as they get themselves into some of the most difficult positions imaginable such as walking on tree branches upside down and contorting their bodies to reach out (hard places for larger birds )to get at food they have hidden away at an earlier time.Chickadees can remember where they have hidden food for up to 28 days after hiding it and the numbers of places can be in the thousands.

This photo shows one spot where this little one has hidden some food,in this case a rolled up leaf in the form of a tube.I watched this little bird pull from the tube an even ten seeds that it had hidden in it.The bird worked at the top of the tube first and then it started on the underside next pulling out of the tube seeds which it ate directly. The advantage for me was the bird was easy to get photos of as a result as they are so animated otherwise and are difficult to photo well. The mistake I made in getting this shot was I should of boosted my ISO so the action would of been less blurred as the light was some what subdued at the time, next time!Well next time is a shot of another little chickadee in the workshop. Both photos were cropped and resized, slightly sharpened using Paint.Net.

I dedicate this photo to Marie Proue, whom unfortunately has just recently lost her mom.Marie can be found here on TN as user name "marieproue" Marie this little sweetie is for you and your mom,and if your mom is with one of these little birds she is in the best of company as chickadees are such good natured little birds and are much liked and loved by many people everywhere. All the best to you in this now new year. Hi Bob,
Chickadees are amazing little acrobats indeed, and is a real pleasure to see your picture showing what they can do. TFS
Regards, Mario

Your note is fascinating and title quite appropriate. It is so refreshing to see something other than the usual classic pose. Nice work.

Do you find that you use the live-view feature much on your new camera?

Hi bob,

I love the pose, so small and so energetic and as your title says so acrobatic. Great natural colours, excellent details in the plumage. Very original compositon, seems that the chickade is swinging on the branche.

Hi Bob - I do not see where the action is blurred noticeably. In fact, I was thinking before reading your notes that it was very sharp! Thanks for the tip re: ISO on my cormorant shot. I will try that next time! This little guy is adorable - I love the story, as I was wondering what that thing on the end of the twig was. How ingenious! A wonderful capture on your part!

Hi Bob, as I told Mario, I don't know what's going on on TN today, I would need a whole truck filled with cookies because the pictures are so fantastic, everyone has posted well-kept secrets or dusty archives that should have been posted first-hand! I love that picture you posted, this chickadee in the wild, that's one thing that I love, it's not at the feeder. Also, I love the acrobatic movement that they do so often and that you could capture so well, I love the light, the colours, almost monochromatic with patches of red and an orange, I even love the twigs making a great composition. And as ever great note, and this one impressed me a lot. you really captured a great moment. Félicitations!

Francine

Great shot....how cute! You showed the dexterity of this little one.
