White breasted nuthatch
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This is the result of my first time outside shooting handheld with my new 400L. I got very lucky with this shot at 1/400th. On other shots, I needed at least 1/800th.
A white breasted nuthatch. White-breasted Nuthatch: Large nuthatch, blue-gray upperparts, black crown and nape, and white face, underparts. Tail is dark with white corners. Legs and feet are black. Eats spiders, insects, nuts and seeds. Weak fluttering flight, alternates rapid wing beats with periods of wings drawn to sides.
This bird is usually quiet during breeding season and in the summer. In late winter and spring it sings a series (about 6-8) of low whistled notes. The call is a nasal sounding yank-yank. |

Josh,
Very nice capture of this nuthatch. That is such a 'signature' pose of this little bird. I like the POV and the blue background contrasting with the bird. Great work.

Hello Josh,
Good compo and a beautiful White Breasted Nuthatch. Very good light. However the highlights are a bit OE(overexposed) IMhO.
You can avoid that through making the image darker i.e. shorter exposure; through compensation adjustment settings on the camera.
This is one example to avoid this...
Maybe you already knew that.
Looking again at your image though, I guess you need to adjust only a little bit.
Take care it is a good image!
Well done
TFS

Hi Josh.
What a superb exposure of the image despite the difficult light and colour conditions. Amazing details and sharpness of the bird image and trunk. Blurriness of the light BG is excellent too. Pictured scene is fine at whole. My best wishes and TFS.
Alexei.
