In Canada, the russet-red squirrel populates the boreal forests of the Atlantic in the Pacific, and one finds it in north until the limit of the trees. In the United States, it lives in the mountains of the east and the west of the country. The head of the russet-red Squirrel is relatively short and broad. Long vibrisses black emergent on each side of the small muzzle, eyebrows and cheeks. A fine band blanchâtre surrounds the large dark eyes and distinguishes it from the gray Squirrel. In general, the peeling of the russet-red Squirrel is brown olivâtre the summer, and brown russet-red the winter, except on the belly where it is white at the year. A black demarcation with the junction of the white and the brown one differentiate it from the gray Squirrel. The spring moult lasts 2 months and takes place between the end of March and the beginning of July. That of autumn occurs especially between mid-September and mid-November. The russet-red Squirrel is rather solitary and sedentary, but also very territorial. As soon as it detects a presence, it reacts promptly by pushing several nervous "tchic-tchic-tchic", then while tambourinant with its feet and by agitating the tail frantically. If the intruder approaches, this cry changes into furious a "tcheur-r-r" accompanied by vibrations. It can also emit a less strident "ouoc-ouoc".

bonjour Michel

Merci

Hello Michel,
Seems like this little charmer doesn't mind sharing food with the birds! Or is it the other way around, hehehe...
I can see one happy squirrel and I understand why, with all that food within reach...
A well framed situation, great details in the animal!
Greetings,
Pablo -
