[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This Bull Elk was captured in Jasper National Park. This photo shows the beginning on his rack of antlers with which he will fight for the right to breed the cows in September. These antlers are feed by blood vessels in the velvet covering the antlers until late August /early September when the velvet is rubbed off on small trees and bushes in preparation for the Rut.

Hi Rick,
A great first plane of this b. elk!
I like the good light on his head, that produced such great details on the fur and specially en its antlers.
The smooth greens at the background works great for the picture.
Congratulations and thanks for share it.
My best regards,
JM

2005 seems like a year you would like to do once more Rick. Opportunities abounded as this one...Just look at those antlers...how beautiful and majestic. I digress...why do Canadians call x amount of beers a rack and a half rack? Does it have connections in some way? Anyhow...nice image as is your way...Some animals here are awake in the snow yet..I have seen! Keep the faith...and stay warm,
Bob

He doesn't look to happy at you being there. I like the light on the velvet. It has a nice sheen to it.

Nice portrait with good detail and color! Well done! Cheers, Klaus

Hi Rick,

Great close-up of this Elk with his amazing looking antlers. He looks like he's not used to them yet but proud of them at the same time. The eye and ears are wonderful too.
