[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Today's' post is part of a large herd of Pronghorn at home on the open grasslands. The sea of frozen grasslands you see in the distance has few human disturbances except for some gas wells. This is an area I used to work in and this is my first trip back in 15 years and it was done on a cool -25 celcius day. Without anything to hold the snow our winds of late has drifted the snow into the draws and coulees giving the Pronghorns easier access to the grasses on the hill tops to feed on. I would estimate we saw 3 herds containing approximately 400 animals so this is just a small portion. Once again I will post an image in the workshop of what happens when you approach too closely.

Now this looks much like some of the Palouse here rick...with the added snow you could say it was the west plains of E Washington and nobody would look twice...of course I haven't seen any animals like this down here but that's a noter story...Fine geographical as well then.
Bob

Hello Rick,
Impressive and beautiful animals. We already discussed these 'runners' in a previous image.
-25 celsius is a first class cool temperature, I believe. How to use a camera in these conditions?
And what the camera? Batteries, lens,...
Still I did a workshop (hope you don't mind); it is a workshop from your workshop actually.

Hello Rick,
A fine winter scene of a group of Pronghorns. I like the composition and that they are all looking the same way at something that is drawing their attention away from the photographer!
Thanks for sharing this one,
Ivan

Very Nice Rick - One of my goals for this year is to get down south and take some images of these Alberta icons. So many places to go, so many images to capture, maybe I'll have to retire.

nice harem in the snow, TFS Ori

Hi Rick,

When I first saw the thumbnail I thought it must be one of Bob Shannon's shots. Interesting picture of the group all looking in the same direction. Must have been something there that attracted them. I liked the workshops also - glad they didn't run towards you.

Hi Rick, what a lovely shot. I love the dreamy like look of it and these are superb animals. The snow at the background is wonderful, so wavy. The pronghorns are alert and magnificent, I would love to sit on my buns if I had buns like theirs ;-) Thanks Rick, lovely colours, it's a beauty!

Hi Rick

I like the sepia effect of this shot - very beautiful. I can also feel the cold! Good composition.

Hi Rick
I've heard that the pronghorn herd up during the winter months. It would definitely be a wondrous sight to see. This is a nice little herd, they all seem to be staring at something. I like the soft lines in the background from the rolling hills...nice effect.

An interesting sight, in any case, Rick, and you show these Pronghorn well despite some tough shooting conditions. I like the WS capturing them on the run, too. Kudos for effort and for capturing them in their natural environs.

Magnifique troupeau, la composition est superbe.
Bravo

Hello Rick

Another Beautiful,natural setting.This is super.
These could grace an article about wildlife in Western Canada in any magazine.
The focus is sharp and the details show well.
Great job.

Hi Rick,
I like this image but the one in the workshop is even better. The idea of making them run downhill is quite innovative.
