Rivière l'Assomption

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
I don't have much time today as I am leaving for Montreal and the weather is bad: ice rain, snow, and it's 0 degree Celsius, which I don't like on the roads because it gets very slippery at that weather. Here, in St-Alphonse, I have to drive about 25 minutes of a mountain road with much curves and hills... the worst at that weather.
I am posting this picture of Rivière l'Assomption which is the a river crossing Lanaudière, the area where I live. It is a small river but it is about 200 km long, starting at the Mont-Tremblant and falling into the St-Lawrence river. There are places where it becomes nice waterfalls, in St-Jean-de-Matha. You can also do canoe and kayak near St-Côme. It crosses wild areas and in Joliette, in winter when it is iced, people can skate on it.
I really like that picture because of the layers of colours and which shows different stages of ice and water. It reminds me of the Inuit language with many words for snow, in fact there are different states for water and some of them are well shown here.
I like the frost on ice, which is probably made because of the humidity and droplets in the air. The sun was setting and I had to take the picture through thick bushes and lots of snow. It was cold too.
That's a quiet part of this river but there is a lot of current there, that is why it is not completely frozen. Just ahead of that place, there used to be a sawmill. The area here used to be one of logging and the men would work in the forest, as woodcutters and dredgers (dragueurs). They would use the river to carry the lumber (in French Canadian, we call it "pitoune"). There is no agriculture in this area, too much wood and rocks.
Thank you! I will come back tonight to comment your wonderful pictures.

Interesting...the colours flow and the rivers slow...it certainly changes the quality of the image into a poetic motion...nicely done with the lines not completely straight as they would be scientifically but a bit haphazard as they are truly in nature..

Hi Francine!
This is simply a beauty. I like the shapes as well as the color tones very much. It's winter, your picture shows ice and snow, and although cold colors are dominant, the overall expression of the picture is warm and tender.
Kind regards
Markus
Hello Francine
I would love to have such a river near to me...I am really amazed at the differing flow of the currents from the far bank to the near...I would love to see a really wide angle shot to a bit more of this wonderful river that you have described so well.
A good trip to you
Paul

Hello Francine,
Looking very chilly there. The frost on ice is captured in good details with the snow in the foreground making this a good composition.

Jusni
