This post is like sitting in front of a wood stove. It was shot the same day as the other Canada Goose picture I posted recently.

In that post, I mentioned about the blurring of my pictures and really, I thought the one I was posting was too blurred but, to my surprise, the comments have been positive and in fact yes, the picture was not that blurred. This had the effect to push myself and propose you with a real blurred picture this time. But I like it.

If the act of photographing is painting with light, I think this picture reflects very well that saying. When I opened this file, I was stupefied to see the background, those trees in flame and in "movement". The flock of Geese passing just in front of those trees creates a live feeling, it's almost as if I could hear them yap and flap.

They were hundreds and hundreds of Canada Geese on this pond that day. It was the first cold day and in fact, the day after this was the first big snow storm. They never came back. This is the departure going South.

I must have stayed an hour and a half at the pond, taking pictures. The light was changing rapidly and with the trees, the reflection of the trees in the water and those hundreds of Geese, I was carried away in a state of grace as most of you must live that feeling too. I know I could have open the lens more up to F4 but to be true, when I take pictures I often forget about what I'm doing...

This picture reminds me of The Four Seasons by Vivaldi. It has something like churches' bells sound, it's allegoric, alive and so bright and vibrant.

I needed that kind of warmth before spring comes. In each and every season there is a quintessential nature. Fall has the warmth, preserved in view of what's next. Winter is blue in all its meanings. Spring is a chorus. And summer is the prayer. Thank you and bye bye!

What do the traditional Maori diet, autumn leaves, and red wine have in common? That's what three very different scientists from Auckland University have begun to piece together. They all share a common interest - the colour red. They've shed light on why plants could help us live longer and healthier by solving a mystery that has puzzled botanists for centuries - why on earth do leaves turn red? Their research has not only solved the mystery but also revealed that when it comes to human health red is the new green.

Hi Francine,
tremendous style and movement. Sometimes i think it's good to be a little more fluid and less clinical with our approach to capturing things as precisely as we can. Your creative tendencies are clearly demonstrated here and i for one really appreciate them. Great work, well done.
Paul

Hi Francine,
This image captures wonderfully the energy of the moment. The lead bird's open beak gives a sense of the honking sounds. The blurred wings shares the beating of the wind. The unity of the group shows their mission. The seasonal bright and warm bg is a fine contrast to the dark birds, and it's panned blurring increases the sense of movement. Also a fine note. TFS
Richard

Hello Francine,
How dare you? It is a blurred one!:-))
I believe it is called 'panning' what you did here. In photography, this technique is used to suggest fast motion. The length of your exposure was apparently long enough to allow the background to blur.
Good effect...

Salut Francine!

Markus

Hi Francine,

What a catch. I think that works really well as you get a real impression of movement and the backdrop is amazing. A small aperature number would have given you less motion blur, but may have resulted in a less effecve picture. I really liike it.

Mike

Hello Francine! Amazing shot. Very interesting capture. Original moment. Fantastic dynamic composition. Well done!

Hello Francine,

Yes, I too am a believer in photography as an artform - "painting with light" - and this is a great example of that, beautiful - the fluid movement and composition is wonderful.

Great stuff - more like this very welcome!

Doug

Francine,

Congrats on a great image,
Wow! What a burst of color,
I think the blur goes with it to have the feeling of travel so, hats off to you,
Well done,

So good it leaves me without words...and to think that you are living such a wonderful life in a beautiful country, a beautiful home, with a talented partner on guitar and you on off day doing camera work which is true art...I am jealous! I wish I could be there...be you..well..that would be a stretch, but Jung says my feminine side is strong...anyway...I sent you email and I love this shot..a lot!

Hello Francine,
Wings of thunder crossing the grassy plains, due south, to the lands of warmth and grain. Be the baited breath's of winter come, let us soar and be soon held high above the Tempest's storm and pointed to the distant lands held beyond the horizon of our dreams.

Bonita toma y sobre todo una interesante explicación. Por lo que comentas vives en una zona dura por la climatología pero con escenas y vivencias únicas por los temas que comentas.

Hi Francine

A very eye-catching image! I really like the sense of dual-motion with the pan and the wing-beats of the geese. Lovely, golden BG.

Hello Francine

A lovely pan shot of these geese taking off.The backdrop of autumn colours is like the forest is on fire.
The grouping of the geese is super, wings flapping ,beaks honking. The moment is well captured and the action is truly conveyed.
The composition is well done.
Done with artistic flair.

Hello Francine,
Another very fine in-flight capture of Canada Geese against a dramatic background. Great experimental Art! Personally I may have included more space below the birds but nevertheless its a lovely composition.
Many thanks and have a nice weekend, Ulla

Hi Francine

Another shot of this type from you and you seem to be getting better and better :)
The feeling of action and movement is so good in this one! I really like it!
The colors here are also outstanding and the contrast between the ducks and the BG make me like this one more than your previous similar post.
The composition is also great and the exposure very well handled.

Bravo and TFS

Hi Francine,
This is very good. Even though nothing is really in focus the sense of movement is superb, I can almost hear the wingbeats! Well exposed with fantastic colors in the background. Well framed too, a very artistic approach that has paid off well I think.

Adrian
