45 - 65 cm
black with three bright yellow stripes, the lateral stripes occurring on the third and fourth row of scales from the belly
whitish half moon shaped spot in front of each eye

wet meadows, marshes, bogs, ponds, weedy shorelines and swamps
Conservation concerns, distribution and status:
common and local in southern Ontario.

Hi Babak, I've been to Frontenac Park a couple of times, and when we're in Canada, we stay close to it but I've never seen one of these guys. I am definitely going to need to keep my eyes open more. This is a great shot. You have excellent exposure on the snake with very good colour and sharp detail. I like how you've caught him just sticking his head up from under those dead leaves. Excellent positioning on your part. Very nicely done.

Thanks, John
