| Great horned owls are resident throughout all of North America in forests, woodlands, streamsides, open country, deserts, canyons, cliffs and city parks. The great horned owl preys on rabbits, rodents and birds and occasionally skunks. This is the largest and best known of the common owls. This photo of the owl sitting on the branch of the tree, I took from the window. |

Hi Ziggy,
this is a very sharp and well focused shot with great looking colour.I do not think that your bird is a great horned owl because it does not have horizontal barring on it's chest and it looks small for a great horned as well.I think that your owl is an Eastern Screech-Owl and a red morph version as well.A very beautiful capture of this fine bird and thank you for sharing it with us. Bob
Hi Ziggy,
What a beautiful creature! Love the look on it's face! Excellent detail and beautiful colors. TFS

Nice shot of the Owl Ziggy. I think Bob is correct; it is an Eastern Screech. The sharp detail in this shot is very good with great colour on the owl and those fresh Maple leaves provide a pleasant background. Composition is good with the way you've filled the frame. The stare from those eyes is incredible.
Thanks, John
