Hi Everyone, today I went out to try my hand at the last lunar eclipse here in North America until December of 2010.I call this photo "To Flash or Not" as the left hand side view is without flash and the right hand side I used flash. This was at the early stage of the eclipse and the truth of how the moon looked is the image of the left hand side, even though the image on the right may appeal somewhat more to some eyes, but it is not the truth until later in the event.Pasted together from two images using Paint.Net.To flash or not,you decide.Somehow I lost the exposure information in the creation process and I think that it may be because with the use of flash the time value changed and to avoid conflict Paint.Net left it out.I hope you like this example of technique showing the difference in results if flash is used or not. Bob

Hi Bob,
Nice work mate, I like the way you've compiled the two versions together, really good detail, we had an lunar eclipse here in Brisbane sometime back and I posted a shot on my T/E account, its the only time I ever got the exposure right ! Can’t seem to nail it without an eclipse, Cheers Rick :)

Hello Bob,
Over here we started of so well yesterday afternoon, with a clear blue sky!
However the clouds hovered in and around midnight the moon was gone, hehehe....
The capture here is skilfully done, with sharp fine details!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Hi Bob,

Nice captures of the eclipse, here the sky was unfortunately covered with a thick pack of clouds and the eclipse last all night,I like the picture on the right side, but imo the use of flash have no effects on shooting celestal bodies (too far),regards

Paul

Hello Bob,

Thanks for sharing these images with useful information of the capture. I like the cooler image on the left but you have captured both images in good details and sharpness. The tendency to get burnt while shooting moon is totally eliminated here. My guess is you have zoomed right to 400mm even though the EXIF data was lost and this is very commendable attempt. Well done and best regards,

Jusni

Great shots Bob, you show the 2 shots of the moon so well. I prefer the flash image - as I can see more of the moon, but the 'real' colour is better.

Thank you for sharing
Janice

Good job. Pretty much the same results as I got last night.
Good comparison.
Though I believe that not the flash caused the difference in the images, but the difference in settings caused by it, leading to a probably longer exposure as compared to the other shot - hence the coloration.
Cheers, Klaus

Thanks again, Mario

Supereb, tu as bien sus saisir cette lune.
Bravo
Marie

Hi Bob
Interesting to see what a flash does to the moon. We were so lucky to have a clear sky for the eclipse this time. The eclipes was really spectacular to see and you captured it well.
