This is a female Common Redpoll eating at the feeder. In the back, you can see the red breast of a male. It was snowing that day. The flock in the village counts at least 100 birds. The closer we will get before they leave, the more they will be. I think they gather together before they go and also, I noticed, just like the goldfinches, that they eat more as if to make some reserves of fat before the big trip.

I dedicate this picture to my colleague Pina, who has a breast cancer and they are going to take away both breast on the 28th this month because the cancer is hormonal (which is the worst) and that she is very young: about 35 years old. She is a beautiful woman, with very long dark hair, always smiling and really nice. I was shocked when I have been told she had cancer and even more shocked to know that they are going to take away her breast.

I dedicate this picture to her to give her strength on the big day, to giver her the energy of these beautiful birds with the red chest. Energy and warmth.

I do not mean to be sad without reason or to bring you into this sadness. It's kind of a prayer to her, to bring forth the power of life and resistance, just like these tiny birds resist adverse weather.

To little Pina and to health for us all. To Rick, our friend on TN, as well, may he be back with us very shortly.

Have a healthy week-end! Thank you,

francine

I sure see the coming in sideways. So this bird battles against wind and nature...as does your friend. I have complete understanding of the nature of the beast. My mother had radical and my wifes mother died of such. We accompanied her from diagnosis to final passing. May your picture give courage to you and information to others...you are a grand lady full of strength and caring, with a talent for passing it all along to others so that they too might understand!

Bonjour Francine,

Lise

Bonsoir Francine,

I never know what to say in these situations, I suppose it's because I've never experienced anything like it except when I was very young.
I am terribly sorry to hear of Pina's illness. It must be incredibly hard for her but she will pull through and will fully appreciate life and live it to the full.
She will really love this kind dedication.

Stunning capture Francine.
She is like a little acrobat!
I like the almost horizontal snow in the BG.

Thanks for sharing this,

Joe

Hello Francine,

Thanks for sharing this head-turning shot :-)

Very well captured with excellent sharpness on the head and exposing the plumage rather well. Interesting format with the crop leaving the space on the right. I like this unique composition. Well done and have a wonderful weekend.

Regards,
Jusni
