[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
They say that curiosity killed the cat but I can testify that Blue Jays are among the feline's character traits. Blue jays are the birds that I love most to photograph even though I haven't had many good pictures of them. I guess I have to refine my technic ability with them but as soon as spring comes, I will try pushing my luck again.

I love to photograph them because they are so fast, they are quite funny to observe, their flight is amazing and they always seem to be stealing the peanuts they take in the feeder.

They always watch me, never loosing sight of what I am doing and where I am. They seem to communicate together in a flash.

In the National Geographic of this month, the US issue, there is an article relating to the intelligence of animals. I am sure most of us here on TN agree with this even though the thought that animals are just animals without intelligence and only reacting to stimulis is very strong.

The article is not an in-depth one but I was so happy to read about it in a magazine such as this one because it reaches a very wide audience. It's about time that the researches touch the public.

There is a mention about the Western Scrub Jay who "does some real reasoning. They will move a food cache if another jay sees them hide it, recalling when they themselves were thieves! They also plan for tomorrow's breakfast, basing food stores on future hunger regardless of current needs." (extract from National Geographic, March 2008 issue)

The article is a great acknowledgement of animals' intelligence and I was touched a lot by it. Hopefully one day human beings won't even have to think about it and that it will be simply a known fact that animals are thoughtful, emotional beings.

Thank you!

Francine

Hi Francine. It looks like its looking for somthing. is he looking at you. good detail and natural colours. well done TFS.
Nick..

bonjour Francine

He certainly looks like he a curious fellow to me...You have captured him in a pose that shows it perfectly....The details are perfectly sharp and there is a lovely background which highlights him even more.

Hi Francine

I really like the pose - you have captured the spirit of the bird here - that look also reminds me of my dog when she wants something.

Hello Francine,
I really wish we had these beautiful birds here too. They do seem to be pretty tame. I love the pose of this one looking very curious. Very fine details and good colours and I like your composition.

Salut Francine,
Merci!

Nice capture at 1600..I was just ref'ing high ASA's to Horia...but it worked here as well as there...and made use of the back-light sun which is almost totally. It would have otherwise not bee usable..Very nice! Tres!

Hello Francine,
This is a lovely capture and your notes are superb. I too have trouble with Blue Jays, we have very few here but still I get opportunities but have not yet got one I am pleased with. Thank you Francine.

Hi Francine,

I love Jays too, but haven't managed to get close enought o one to get a good shot. I've certainly got nothing nearly as good as this. Great expression from the bird, great detail and a lovely soft background. Fantastic.
