Hello Claudine,
Just as you in Quebec see many images of our common European birds, we see so many images of Chickadees and Northern Red Cardinals and though I have often seen images of the female of the Northern Red Cardinal, this is exceptional for two reasons:
the technical quality of the image is superb with fine sharpness and detail and skillful use of flash without making the BG too dark.
Secondly the great POV taken from behind as she looks at the photographer as if she has been photographed many times.

Hi Claudine

All it took was one great shot and there you have it - a brilliant capture of a lovely little Cardinal.

I notice you had a little spare light to work with and I am sure that if this bird afforded you some more time you would have played a bit with the aperture to try and gain even more DOF. That could have provided that the tail also was in full focus, but don't let me put you off, because it is fabulous just as it is and I am only dreaming of what more could have come from this scenario. What makes this even more pleasing on the eye is that little look she gave you over her shoulder.

The red branches of the shrub blend in nicely with the birds colours especially its legs. The highlights in the eye and on the beak are smashing. The BG is superb while it enhances the Cardinal and makes it almost jump out of the shot. The exposure was well balanced showing excellent contrasts and the details are spot-on.

Allo Claudine, une autre superbe photo de cardinal. J'adore cette photo à cause des couleurs, le vert de l'arrière plan qui contraste joliment avec le rouge et marron clair de madame Cardinal. As-tu vu le doigts de ses pieds ressemblent à la branche sur laquelle elle se perche? Et puis, ses petits sourcils sont rouges, on croirait une coquetterie. Magnifiques détails, Claudine, comme d'habitude ta photo est très réussie!

Bravo pour ta 100ième photo sur TN, ce card¸inal femelle sur la branche est impressionnant. La prise de vue permet de distinguer avec précision les détails et les couleurs de l'oiseau. La luminosité fait ressortir les couleurs. Bonne soirée.

Very nice shot Claudine!
The detail in the plumage is incredible!
The flash may be a bit harsh but it has lit the bird well enough to show every detail, eliminate all distracting shadows and to add a striking catch-light to the eye.
The colours from the bird blend in perfectly with the glossy red tree its perched on.
Great DOF and BG.

Bonjour Claudine, superbe pose de cette madame Cardinal, les détails sont très nets et la composition très attrayante. L'exposition est parfaite mais je trouve que l'éclair du flash est un peu trop évident mais je sais bien que c'est matière de goût. C'est peut-être le 'flash extender' ? Chanceuse que tu es d'avoir pu photographier de si agréables facon cette femelle Cardinal... Personnellement je suis toujours à la recherche de ma première photo potable de cette espèce... La seule chose peut-être c'est que l'effet du flash semble assez prononcé (surtout sur le bec...). J'aime voir si bien l'iris dans son oeil et aime aussi le beau bg qui l'environne...

A shot with superb sharpness, lighting and colours. Good close up and the overal tones of red and maroon goes very well with the BG.
Th movement in the tail gives it a bit of sheen and that eye with the catchligh oozes attitude.

Superb photography. Every little detail is just excellent. From the feathers standing up straight on this birds head, right down to the paws clutching onto the branch. It is amazing how similar the texture and colour of the branch and the paws is. This is outstanding and one of the best cardinal shots I've seen. I love the pose of the bird, details are razor sharp and colours wonderful. I like the contrasting blurred green dark background too. A fine composition and the frame fit very nicely. A swanky little bird. Thanks for sharing.
