Northern Cardinal

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This is a male Northern Cardinal. This bird is very shy: it watched me stand frozen for almost two hours before daring to come closer. The prize was the safflower and sunflower seeds of the feeder in the University of Guelph's Arboretum.
This is a link where you can listen to the sound of the Northern Cardinal.
PP: I eliminated a colour cast, and sharpened the photo a little after cropping. I've also added a faint vignette to work against the bright and distracting background.
To see what a difference a good piece of glass can make, check out another photo of the same bird shot at the same location with a lesser piece of glass right here. |

Angela
Not only a great shot...but a great lesson in glass...which I am all too familiar with much to the dismay of my hopes vs my pocketbook...Very nice image...You are a well seasoned fellow I can tell!

Hi Josh.
Simply amazing close-up with terrific eye-contact and 3D-effect. I feel that bird is in my room. Fantastic details, colours and crop. Bravo.
Alexei.
Beautiful shot. Good composition and bright colours. Though I think a little more brightness in the eye would have made the picture even better. Anyways,. good work.
Wonderful perspective, great color / detail
I love this as it is a unique shot.
