[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A Bohemian Waxwing on a crabapple tree. This bird must have been drunk on fermented fruit: it let me get very close. There were several dead birds on the ground with no visible marks - perhaps the birds can eat themselves to death?

Very little PP work: I processed in RAW for sharpness , adjusted contrast in curves and then used a highpass sharpening method.

Gorgeous shot, sad story-was there a storm that week and they were blown there, starving?? Because they are not native to the area. Maybe the crabapples were just too much for them? It would be interesting to ask a biologist. Beautiful image, though!

wonderful capture.great detail and excellent sharpness.beautiful colors!

Hi Josh,
great looking shot of the waxwing with nice muted colours and a clear focus. These birds can die if they get too much alcohol into them and sometimes the fermented fruit has just enough to unfortunately kill them and the same can happen to the cedars as well. Thanks for sharing this one with us. Bob

Hi Josh!

You seem to handle your postprocessing software very well! I wonder how the highpass sharpening method works because the result is superb! The sharpness in this picture is incredible, as well as the colours are. So pleasant to look at, even if the situation was dramatic...

Kind regards

Markus

Hi Josh.
Superb work from you and great lens work too. Amazing in every respect shot. I like delicate nicely coloured smooth BG, brilliant reproduction of all details of the fine bird and impressive tree and its fruits. Pose of the bird and composition of the image are so impressive too. Bravo. Well done.
