"RED-BELLIED PIRANHA". Family: Characidae-characins, Genus: Pygocentrus, Species: nattereri, Length: upto 12" (31cm.),Weight: 3.5 kg. (8lbs.)
The Piranha Fish's mouth.
However, the Piranha is not the ferocious killer that popular culture makes them out to be. While they have an impressive bite, they are more likely to be eaten by us then do any eating. There is not a single account of "death by piranha" on written records for humans. They are a popular fish food for many Amazon people, however.
This fish has special lines down the side of their bodies called 'lateral lines', which they use for hearing. This helps them find prey in murky water. They then use their powerful jaws and razor sharp teeth to capture and eat fish and aquatic invertebrates such as mullusks, insects and crustaceans. They have the "reputation" of being one of the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. Their short jaws certainly are very powerful and lined with razor sharp teeth, well able to take a chunk of flesh out of a much larger fish.

You really think out your images and presentation well Mario. You removed some of the danger from the fish in yur words of explanation. Good lesson plan as usual from you!

Hi, my dear Matio.
It is something different and so nice as your last pictured. Excellent image of the fish and its underwater world. All is superb – and lights, and colours and sharpness. My compliments.
Alexei.
P.S. Your weather is funny and brings you many surprises this year. We have bad spring too. Until now, temperature is about 5-10 degrees and cloudy.
Hello Mario,
Looks like a hungry little fellow! No joking, he seems to be very well fed!
It is rare to see fish in TN, so this is refreshing...
Subject is well framed with good details!
Greetings,

Wow - real Pirahna! Wonderful clear shot - well done!
Hello Mario. Good looking fish here. The mouth looks small for the big appetite. Well done and best regards. Jusni
