Today I have for you a simple photo of a pair of common mergansers in flight over the still partially frozen over Emerson Lake here in High River.I have been trying inflight shots more this year than ever before as I like the dynamic of flight and it is more of a challenge than just photoing the birds in water.A little blur is good for it shows motion but too much blur can really ruin the shot and in my opinion this photo falls somewhere between the two as I would of liked to have had the time to increase my iso setting for a speed boost but for that I like this lovely pair of ducks and I hope that you do too.PP was done with Paint.Net.I have in the workshop a shot of these two just before they panicked and took to the air,the reason was an at large dog whose master should be congratulated for breaking the local leash law, here in High River we do have a proper dog park-oh well. Hi Bob,

Great in flight capture of these very fast Merganser.
Love the way you've captured the male and female together.
Wonderful contrast, colors and feather details.
Sharpness and exposure are excellent.
Also love the movement in the wings which does give the scene a sence of action.
TFS!!!

Best regards, Harry

Hi Bob, You did well grabbing a shot of these fast movers.
Fine details, great flight poses, and well composed. Their spread tails are really different. Tfs Richard

hello Bob

i love both images, the one in the Workshop
and this one more because of the in-flight shot,
fine POV and framing, excellent DOF, and looking
at their heads position we can feel the speed of the flights,

Hello Bob

Hi Bob,
I couldnt have agreed with you more. Birds in flight offer a greater challenge than birds on ground.
This is a fine capture and wonderful effort succesfully culmintaing in a great result.Lovely details on the wings, catchlights on both of their eyes, colours, lighting, sharpness all working extremely well for you. Yeah, the workshop shot shows a relaxed scene.
Very well done .
TFS & Cheers
