"SPIDER MONKEYS".

Spider Monkeys are heavily impacted by the loss of habitat from tropical deforestation, AND are also over-hunted as a food source by many Central and South American cultures. They are listed as Appendix I by CITES (threatened with extinction.)
These you are seeing are known as "Black-handed Spider Monkey." Family: Cibidae, Genus: Ateles, Species: geoffroyii, Length: Body: 38 - 64 cm. (15" - 25") Tail: 51 - 89 cm. (20" - 35") Weight: 6 - 8 kg. (13 - 18 lbs.)

They mostly eat fruit, but also eat leaves, nuts, seeds, buds and flowers. They use their long limbs and their strong, prehensiled tails ( which basically funtions as a fifth limb ) to hang from branches and collect food.

Groups of two to thirty of these New World monkeys can be found living noisily together high in the canopy of rainforests and montane forests. They are very social and well-adapted to living in tree-tops. The end of their prehensil tail is bare for better grip and can even pick things up, while their agility makes them well-suited for climbing, running and leaping through the canopy.
Please see its social behaviour in SELF GROOMING and BUDDY GROOMING.

Hallo Mario
What a delightful shot of these interesting looking Spider Monkeys. This is new to me. I was just wondering why the one on the right hand side is so much darker than the other two. Has it got to do with the gender? Anyhow, this is a great photo with three lovely but in my view ugly monkeys. The different expressions on the two monkey’s faces are captivating. The one on the right hand looks amazed and the other one sad and disappointed. A lovely image which I enjoyed looking at. Thanks for sharing, this catching photo and of course, the informative note.
Hope you are better now. I have been thinking about you a lot after you mentioned your bad health matter.
Best regards
Anna

Hi Mario.
You have captured a wonderful trio. They have noticed your action. Eye-contact with some of them are so cute. Great lighting, colours and composition. Again you have got a crisp sharp image with excellent selection of DOF. Bravo. Excellent job.
Alexei.
P.S. Today we have first warm day (+22 degrees).

I love the soft colours in this and the way the light patterns in the center at the back match the fur patterns. Nicely taken. TFS Trevor

Hello Mario,
Same species different faces!
Those fellows are captured in great poses, all of them busy doing their stuff...
But one is focused on the camera, probably the only one that knows what is going on, hehehe!
A lovely image with great details...
Greetings,
Pablo -

Hello Aires, this picture looks like an illustration taken from an old magazine, it is stunning. The composition is superb, the monkeys together seem so much at ease. Thanks for this beautiful picture, I love the colours and mainly, the pose of the monkeys.
