I have been away for the past days because we have adopted a little puppy, a cute Maltese, and I have been watching for him and caring a lot for him, still housebreaking the puppy. We named him Toupti, it is a contraction of two words, "tout petit", meaning "all little". I posted a picture in the workshop, he is so lovely!

As spring is here now, there are many many juncos who flew up north, in their wedding plumage, singing and trilling their songs all around the house. It is mesmerizing! Some sparrows arrived, the white-throated sparrow, the fox sparrow and I saw one singing sparrow. They all come to the feeders and the many juncos really outnumber any other species.

As I don't want to post snow pictures anymore, even though the backyard is still filled with at least 4 feet of snow, I have no choice but post a picture of hope and expectation, "my" lake Pierre and introduce it to you.

This was shot at sunrise when the water is quiet. The sun rises a little later than in reality because of the small mountain you see at the background. Lac Pierre's water is contained within a "bucket" of small mountains and its water are connected to two other lakes. Its a suite of lakes connected together. This year, the water will raise and will be high, I am sure, as there is so much snow to melt.

I know the highlights are burnt but I really like this picture, showing you the beauty of still water. The ropes you see are the limitation set by the City for the public beach close to where I live. Its water is velvety, smelling fresh with a tiny touch of green. I love to swim in it, my body floating in its silk robe.

The soil here is very sandy. The bottom of the lake is sand and you can find mussels in it and fish, some alguas and waterplants like waterlilies. The Lake Association also adds trouts for fishing. The otter, the grey heron, muskrats and sometimes shore birds are seen regularly.

By the beginning of May, when the lake will be unfrozen, migrating ospreys will be seen. Usually, I see about 10 of them, flying over the lake and fishing. What a sight and what a sound when they plunge in the water. In this area, the ospreys don't stay they go a little up north to nest in St-Michel-des-Saints. They were an endangered species in the area and this man, living on an island, started placing big nests at the top of trees to encourage them to nest and be back. It worked! So every year we see them migrating back and forth to nest, thanksfully to the work of this one man and wife.

A lake is a living organism, just the same as a tree or any other living thing. Lac Pierre is not wild anymore, there are cottages and houses all around it and people are allowed to waterski and use their motor boats or sea doos. But for the past years, more and more kayaks and canoes are seen and I cross my fingers that there will be less and less motor boats. With the problem of green alguas, we have to be careful and protect those beautiful oasis of life.

Thanks for reading and I am glad to be back, I missed you!

Francine

Hallo Francine
A stunning capture of this sunrise over the lake. At first thought it was a sunset. The colours are very intense and actually hurt my eyes looking at it for long, just like looking at the sun for some time. The sun shining through the clouds forms a beautiful star pattern. The black silhouette is great, and the different display of colours from gold, dirty pinks, mauves to pale blues are beautiful. Excellent detail in this striking shot, the reflection in the water rounding of this day of break image to a great extent. Thanks for sharing, and have an enjoyable day.
Best regards
Anna

Hi Francine!

So you have "your lake"... Isn't it funny how we all claim to own "our" tree, mountain, river or lake? "Our" beloved and favourite spot out in nature? It's normal, we need to feel at home and to have a place that is ours. And yours shown in this picture is wonderful. I can understand that it belongs to you! Nevertheless, I'm grateful that you share it with us, at least through this marvellous photography that shows us your peaceful and so pleasant lake. You're a lucky princess to own it...

Kind regards

Markus

Hi Francine

Nice to hear great things about you :)
Lovely thing to do - to adopt a puppy - and Toupti sure looks terrific!

Also nice to see that spring is there as well...i know you sure had your share of big snow :))
A wonderful moody landscape here that indeed cries for a category of its own - "lake". Outstanding reflection and gorgeous colors everywhere.
Very well done!

Hello Francine,
First your beautiful image of your lake in the calm early morning has such a peaceful atmosphere. We have a few lakes that personal watercraft aren't allowed on around home. Now your Toupti, he is very adorable and I bet spoiled. We have two dogs left, they are 13 and 14 and I don't know how we will handle losing them, our Cooter was a Maltese/Sheltie cross and we miss him so, still now.
Rick

Hi Francine,
Nice that you've got a new puppy!
And a nice shot to go with it!
I love sunrises for some reason, and this one is especially beautiful.
Cheers!
Goldy

Hi Francine,
Fantastic sunrise image! Incredible cloud and sun reflections seen so well with your fine camera work. This is exposed and composed very well. The sun with rays is a very cool touch. Well done. tfs Richard
PS: Give Toupti a pat for me. What a cutie and good freind he appears to be.

Hi Francine,

A striking image, with the reflections well positioned, and the glowing sun kept perfect in composition. The rays penetrate deep to our hearts.
Fascinating tones.
All the best.
Enjoy the days:)

Miroir miroir....
Tres jolie photo, donne envie de ce baigner mais on voit aussi au loin la brume donc je vais y repenser.
Tres belle palette de couleur.Le reflet permet deux couleurs de ciel.

Excellent shot! The reflections of the clouds on the calm waters look enthralling. Such a picturesque scenery is a treat to watch! Your note also adds to the beauty of the image. The rope does not seem out of place either. Thanks for sharing and compliments on such a beautiful shot.
