hello, this is my first post that the image was shooted
outside the province of Québec where i live, it was
yesterday in Ontario, neighbour province of Québec,
it was at Ottawa the Capital of Canada

i knewed that place (the field) since few years now
and when i went there (in that field) my goal was
to get an image of the Groundhog (Marmota monax),
each 10 to 20 meters they where holes for the Groundhogs,
i walked there hoping to see one, when i saw this head
coming out from that vegetations and hole, i first shot,
then did an approach he went back to his hole, i waited
for something 10 minutes and he never want to come out again,
hading this image, i was happy i leaved the place

photo shot in RAW and in ISO 400

from the Hinterland Who's Who website :

« This animal
• is sometimes completely black or completely white
• is one of Canada’s largest true hibernators and
the subject of a great deal of medical research
spends much of its time eating and sunning when
not hibernating or caring for young
• is the major hole-digging mammal over much
of eastern North America, and in some places in the west,
providing all sorts of animals with shelter »

Francine

Hi Asbed,

Extraordinary creature! Though the Groundhog isn't well displayed against BG it just the good camouflage. Good composition and POV. Natural colours and good sharpness.

Hi Asbed,

This Groundhog could not be camouflaged better! I'm surprised you even spotted him. Nice seeing him in a natural habitat. I see there is STILL snow on the ground.

Jane

Hi Asbed,

Well camouflaged, that you find him?
Good pov and sharpness.

Hi Asbed

Great habitat shot - I like having to look for the groundhog in the shot.

Hola Amigo Asbed.

Bravo..
Michel

I am surprised you even saw it Asbed. I would have waited more than 10 minutes though.
One other nice effect is the snow on the side. That breaks up the texture of just having the dried grasses.
Maybe next time you can get real close.

Hi Friend Asbed,
Splendid shot of the well-camouflaged Groundhog in all aspects.

Hello Asbed

A very effective use of the natural surroundings.
Very good capture of this litle groundhog as it pops his head above the ground.
Good natural colours.

Rob

Hello Asbed. Thanks for sharing this shot. I did not see the subject in the thumbnail and the color blends well in this habitat. Interesting note and well done. Jusni

Hi Asbed,
You had a wonderful timing to get this wonderful photo. This groundhog is easily disappeared from sight in these dry grasses. Lovely pov and composition.
