[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Todays posting is of four cow Elk that were grazing the south facing hillside. Our prevailing winds are from the south west, so south facing hills are quite often bare and with the warm sun are the first to get fresh growth. These four were part of a large herd scattered on the hillside, I would guest around a hundred. I will post a larger portion of the herd showing more of their surrounding in the workshop. The other thing I found interesting is the bulls have not yet shed their antlers.

Wonderful images, Rick.
Both images are great.
The one in the workshop is really extraordinary especially in terms of content (as always in your work) and composition.
Beautiful animals.
Very good!

Hello Rick,

Very nice picture of these elks. Very good composition, POV, DOF and sharpness. Very nice colours. It is amazing how dry can be the grass during spring in Alberta.
Cheers,
Mariki

I wonder...One year we had some Tule (sp?) Elk come down from the Oregon Cal border all the way to just north of Mendocino. Folk's were going out of their way to take images...this was back in the early 1980's..This is a somewhat familiar sight where you are but highly unusual on the NorCal Coast. Very nicely "grouped together":-)

Superb animals, Rick, they look almost like lamas, don't you think? Once again, this natural setting with natural colours are great, I love the beautiful sun rays covering them. The blond grass looks like velvet, let me breathe a little of that fresh air! Thank you!

Francine

I like the formation of these Elks, Rick. There is a symmetry to your composition of them.
You have captured the expression of alertness on their faces very well.
TFS and regards.

Nice natural image of these female Moose.

Hi Rick,
i like how we can see that their coats are perfectly coloured to fit in with the seasons grazing land. Nice alert pose on all four and the workshop helps put it all in context too. Thanks for sharing this,
Paul
