"PAPO DE PERU".
For a very very long time I was wanting to ID this plant. Now that I've found it on TN I'm merely "copying" the data from my Brazilian friend Renato; and, here it is: Família: AristolochiaceaeConhecida vulgarmente como orelha de elefante, papo-de-peru-grande, papo-de-peru-de-babada, mil-homens, jarra-açu, flor-de-pelicano, cachimbo de holandês por relembrar um fumante de cachimbo.

==================================================
This is a native flower from Brazil, it looks like a 'turkey´s crop' and is also known as one of the most bizzare flowers of the earth.
It is indeed a bizzare plant.
It smells like rotting flesh. REALLY.
Now this is what it does. Flies passing by are attracted to its stink and get into it. The flower automatically strangulates that opening. It does no harm to the fly within. The flower holds it "captive" for a few hours and releases it. The fly goes back to another of these flowers and the operation is repeated.
Now, do you know what took place???? Yes, you are right. The fly has been a party to the plant's sexual pollination process. Now, tell me is it really not "ONE OF THE MOST BIZZARE FLOWERS OF THE EARTH"????????
It is also a GREAT help to the swallow tail butterfly.

Namastay Dear Mario,
It is long since I have seen you here on TN. It was a hard time for me here in Cuttack, Orissa. Anyway the difficulties are somewhat about to end. Hope you and Bernardete are good in health and mind. Well a nice capture of this beautiful flower but not so beautiful by smell. Excellent technique for survival in this mad mad world. Very good details and a lovely composition. Thanks a lot for sharing.
Sincerely
Haraprasan

Hi, dear Mario.
What a great couple of shots of rare flower. Where have you pictured it? Great DOF despite the open aperture, very nice details and sharpness, colours are wonderful too. However note is brilliant. Interesting and funny a little bit. Bravo, my dear friend.
Alexei from Odessa where we had two almost summer days.
Hello Mario,
This is truly a funny looking plant!
And I have heard of this behaviour, showing that nature works in many strange ways...
Good details has been captured, fine colour palette!
Greetings,

Hello Aires. Good shot here of what looks like a monkey pot here in Malaysia. They do attract insect and swallowed into that hole. Nice picture and thanks for sharing. Sorry about the cold spring you are having there in Canada. Best regards from hot and humid Malaysia :-). Jusni
