[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Elegant Loon is what I call today's upload. In my personal opinion the common loon is probably the most elegant water bird there is in Canada and also one of the very best fishing birds too. This bird was swimming in Emerson Lake here in High River along with one other and they both were helping themselves to the fish in this man made lake,a lake which is stocked with fish for the local fishermen. There are minnows and trout in this little lake and they are the perfect food for the loon, grebes, mergansers and cormorants.I have a shot of one of these loons swallowing a sizable trout and it looked for all the world that the loon might choke to death eating the fish, see the workshop for that photo, which was too far for my lens to resolve but is included to illustrate how this beautiful bird eats.PP was done with Paint.Net.I hope you enjoy this photo and tomorrow I'll be gone most of the day to get even more photos of the incoming birds on their way to points north. Bob

Hi Bob, Fine capture of this Loon, our state bird here in Minnesota. Very good coloration details, pov, and pose. I see a small bit of flashing on the head. Water looks great. Wonderful red eye. Tfs Richard

Wow Bob,

What a stunner, amazing detail and stunning colours, is it my imagination or does it seem to sit fairly low in the water? beautiful shot mate very nicely framed and composed.

Cheers Rick :)

Sort of funny....Late this afternoon I was cleaning an old drawer and came across an old loonie which I had from before 9-11....when I used to go to Grand Forks to be among civil folks:-) I put it in my pocket just an hour ago....hey look on your map unless you already do not know...just north of us is a place called Loon Lake...it would be SW of you and N of Spokane. Quite birds to hear but I have yet to see one, with exception of coins and images...very nicely done sir...a good sign that weather is changing enough so I don't even need a hoody, however I have heard rumors of cooler weather yet tome come...so peace be to this Loon...as it already looks relaxed, well coloured and ready for a fun season ahead!
