hello, i was decided that if i do a Eastern Cottontail shot
i will keep it and post it on Easter day, but for my today's
Eastern Cottontail image i have another more appropriate title

« The camouflaged Eastern Cottontail » it is why i am posting it today,
photo shot with my 5 megapixels compact digital camera

from the Canadian Biodiversity website :

http://canadianbiodiversity.mcgill.ca/english/species/mammals/mammalpages/syl_flo.htm

« Eastern Cottontail

Sylvilagus floridanus

Unlike its kin, the eastern cottontail does not become white in the
winter time. Instead it remains brown and hides in thickets where it is
concealed from predators. This is a nocturnal creature which leads a
solitary lifestyle. It is estimated each eastern cottontail requires up to
three hectares of its own. The cottontail finds shelter in the meadows,
orchards and shrubby areas, and does not like forested regions.
In summer and early fall, the eastern cottontail will feed on plant
material such as fruits and leaves. Once frost appears the cottontails
shift to feeding on bark, twigs, and buds of shrubs and young trees.
The cottontail has been recorded in both southern Quebec and Ontario
as well as parts of Manitoba and British Columbia. Theses animals
serve a vital function in the environment, as they convert plant
material into meat which is later passed on to predators.»

thanks for viewing and critiques

Asbed,

I like this image a lot. It shows very well how animals blend in into their natural surroundings. I've got a few pictures of an Ovenbird that are very similar to this one. You really have to look closely at it to find out where it is - same as here. Thanks for sharing.

Best Regards,

Martin

Salut Asbed,
Très mignon ce petit lièvre. Bien camouflé il espérait ne pas être vu par un paparazzi mais...
Belle prise,
Roger

Hello Asbed. I like your nature shot with the inclusion of the surrounding. An excellent lesson complemented by very good image. Thanks for sharing and best regards. Jusni

Very nice how they are able to do that...You know they are safe for some...they are all protein...no fat..I have heard of an Alaskan bush pilot who crashed and starved to death even though he had only water and plenty of rabbit...All protein makes no balance...and I'll bet that makes the rabbit happy!

Hi Asbed,
What a lovely capture of this well-camouflaged Eastern Cottontail my friend! It is really hard to see it in first sight. I noticed it when I click on the small frame:-) I think I have to use my glasses in such situations:D. Perfect capture my friend. Great composition. TFS.
Have a nice weekend!

Bonjour Asbed,
Comme il est adorable ce petit lièvre en plus d'être très bien camouflé!
Son pelage d'été se fond à merveille avec le sous-bois.

Hello Asbed,
The Cottontail is well camouflaged and we see him well enough in this image. Nice composition with the stems coming from the leaf-strewn ground with the rabbit hidden amonst it all.
Thanks for sharing this fine image and have a nice weekend Asbed,
Ivan

Hello Asbed,
Indeed it is camouflaged, once could hardly notice them sitting amidst those dry leaves and twigs.
Good idea to present its camouflaged situatio as it is.It's all various hues of brown that on gets to see in this shot.
TFS & Cheers

Excellent example of the camouflage! Good natural lighting and color.

Bonjour Asbed,
Enfin de retour sur TN après un court séjour en Europe du nord, dans le froid et la pluie!!!
Bien vu malgré l'excellent camouflage, bonne mise au point dans ce fouillis de branches
Amitiés
Albert

I have been out today and had a chance at a few Rabbits in similar situations..But I didnt get anywhere close to this!!...If I didnt scare them off then then my focussing was to slow and a got a blurred Rabbit and very sharp foreground!!
Perfect work on your part here.
All the best
Paul

How in the world did you see this creature? I know I would've walked by without seeing him because he would've been in the corner of my eye - where I lack vision. You've got hawk eyes, my friend - good find!

C'est du véritable camouflage,même sa pose est camouflage. C'est beau à regarder, j'adore, surtout avec les patches de vert tendre qui entourent ce bel animal. J'aime beaucoup son oeil vif, qui te regarde ardemment! Merci Asbed, superbe capture,
