Hello Everybody,I have not been all that active on TN as of late because my wildlife friends keep calling out to me to photo them every chance I can get.The last week here in High River where I live has been absolutely incredible for the variety of birds returning to Alberta on their way to their nesting grounds.I have seen five different species of grebes,14 different types of ducks and a variety of songbirds as well, not to mention raptors like hawks and owls and the ever present merlins here where I live and today I sighted my first fox family of 2008; so with all that and more my time has been well spent.A word about photoing these little grebes it is best just to sit down and wait for them to swim by you and believe me a whole lot easier than chasing them around the pond or lake they live in.A few days ago one of the horned grebes obliged me by getting so close I had to back away from it and best of all it posed for me and seemed to enjoy staring at me all the while I was shooting and I staring back at the little bird as well,a moment that really can't be described but so nice to have experienced just the same.I hope you like these little red eyed wonders as much as I do.Cropped and resized using Paint.Net.

Bob

hello Bob

you are a lucky man to see as much speecies of birds
and spacially ducks (14 different speecies WOW !)

very beautiful image of these Horned Grebes, fine POV
and DOF with the waves of the background, i love it,
lovely scene of face to face of theses grebes,
excellent sharpness and details, TFS

Asbed

While the birds are of course you focus....the backdrop, or in this case the water, is so doggone real looking...I mean this looks like fine film work in the water so naturally it helps much in bringing out the birds...You must have been pleased when you saw this on your monitor!

Hello Bob. Excellent and unique looking pair under the morning sun. I like the color around the head and the red eyes. The ripples make excellent background and thanks for sharing. Jusni

What an adorable photo - and the colors are brilliant! I love the POV and the water ripples add tension to this shot - are they going to spar or love? Lovely image.

Hello Bob,
A fine capture of a pair of Horned Grebes taken with fine sharpness in superb lighting on the water. The POV and composition are great.
The bright red eyes are difficult to expose right to avoid over-saturation of the red, but this is well managed. We have a similar species, the Slavonian Grebe, that presents the same problem.
Thanks for sharing this fine image,
Ivan

Bellissima cattura di questa coppia, ottimi POV e composizione, molto buona la nitidezza e splendidi i colori e i riflessi. Grazie e complimenti. Ciao Maurizio

Resplendissants, Bob. They truly are beautiful, the light is stunning, youpi, summer light is back! That's a good change in our pictures, isn't it Bob? Look at the nice wavy blue water with those highlights of colours and the beautiful ducks seemingly looking at each other in a dance. Thanks for your notes and lucky you to enjoy all this beauty, take pictures! I know how satisfying and spiritually fun to do. Thank you!

Francine
