Hi Folks , todays upload is a red winged black bird, this time a female , she was so kind to land on this reed just in front of me :-)

as I said in my last posting I did set my camera settings to medium low contrast , and got some photos of the males as well , my findings are that there is no difference between using the on camera setting and the capture nx setting to change the contrast.

as a secondary experiment I also tried a bit of variance on my ISO , I find the I can safely use an ISO of up to 800 , but only with 'as is' photography , trying to crop or make any large lighting /color changes reveals the sensor noise. so far my best success with the nikon d80 are in ISO range between 100 and 320. now that I have a bit of hands on with this camera it is probably time to do some reading up on it , and go through the camera menu to check on all of the settings to see they are in order plus do some experimenting with the levels of noise reduction to see how it affects different images.

this photo shot at iso 400 had a fair bit of grain , the capture nx software did very little positive in removing it , so I only used it to straight convert the raw to jpeg and did a small amount of pp in free faststone image viewer. with a small crop the resize for TN consumed most of that grain , a large crop would have left it obvious.

thanks for stopping in

Regards

Hello Art, I think this is your best composition, the overall image is just harmony personified, clear, sharp, wll defined bird, beautifully posed and a fine background to set it against. This is when Art (pun intended) meets nature...great work!!

Hi Art. This is a little bird i have never seen so thanks for posting. you have captured this one with good detail and natural colours.Just a little soft in the focusing but still a very nice picture, well done TFs.
Nick..

This is an excellent capture of the female redwing blackbird (I got my first the other day, also). I enjoy the details, the pose, and the texture of the feathers - and the muted BG helps bring her into focus. This is a job well done. It pays to experiment with our equipment - I do the same. Still, this is wonderful.

Hello Art,
You made good use of the opportunity when this female Red-winged Blackbird turned up in front of you and she has a fine pose on the reed. The image is also well-composed.
Maybe it's a little too dark and a little soft, but that could easily be remedied.
Thanks for sharing this beauty,
Ivan
